Hello friends of the community
In today's post, I want to bring you the discovery of this beautiful castle located in Trentino Alto Adige, the place is called Avio.
The Castello di Avio is currently one of the most visited castles in Trentino Alto Adige.
For thousands of years, this beautiful manor has stood on the slopes of Monte Baldo, dominating the Adige Valley, in fact this castle was built precisely to control this valley.
the road to get there is very steep and I recommend very comfortable shoes.
It is a fortified complex consisting of the donjon tower and no less than five defensive towers. You have to leave your car a few kilometres from the castle, because you can practically get there on foot via a fairly challenging road.
Before arriving at the castle, you will have to cross fields of vineyards and olive trees, and if you are as lucky as I was, you will find lots of grapes to taste.
The castle was for several years owned by the Castelbarco family, which practically during the Middle Ages made it a destination for artists and intellectuals, who came from all over the world.
Inside the castle a play path has been created for the little ones in order to encourage them to discover the castle.
In fact, in 1977 the countess Emanuela Rezzonico di Pindemonte, the last heir of the family, donated it to the Fondo Ambiente Italiano, an Italian association that deals with the recovery and enhancement of historical assets.
Currently the castle has been enhanced by this association and can be visited at a cost of € 8 per adult. I, who are practically associated with this association, do not pay anything for the entrance.
A visit to this castle is always very pleasant from the point of view of architecture, but also of the landscape. In fact, here the panorama is beautiful because a panorama made of vineyards opens up in front of you and you can see practically the whole Val d'Adige, but you can also walk around inside the castle and climb the tower as well.
You can also visit the rooms inside the castle, they have all been recovered from the last restoration, and one in particular strikes me every time It is the room of love where there are a series of frescoes, of which the author is unknown , but of the Giotto school, of this I am sure.
From my point of view, if you come on holiday to Italy you must necessarily visit this castle, the ticket is definitely worth the price of the visit.
If you are lucky, and you happen to be on a Sunday, maybe you will also find some medieval events, some performances that are organized every now and then.
Surely I recommend that you eat something at the castle inn, which is located just before the castle, a truly enchanting place where you can eat something genuine and typical of the area at a fairly low price.
Thank you for reading the post up to this point, I hope you enjoyed my exploration, see you in the next post!
Hello everyone and I wish you a good weekend
It is absolutely magnificent place to be at! Atleast to witness the old age and get to see what we have missed over the centuries. These sort of places does kind of reminds me of GOT : )
Sometimes I just wonder how amazing the architect were in the past. With limited resources they have built places which has lasted for centuries and not to forget about the architecture which are fascinating as well. If I ever get the chance I will definitely explore one of these places just to see how it actually feels lol.
you are right, they used to build things that are still there today!!!
