Hello dear friends,
I think this will most likely be my last post of the week because I already know that tomorrow I'll be super busy with work. However, I really wanted to share with you another place in Tuscany, another place not far from Florence, which I think is worth visiting if you come to this beautiful region of Italy.
I'm talking about the town of Lastra a Signa, which I think I've already mentioned before, because it's not the first time I've visited this place. But, as I always say, seeing it in different periods gives you a different perspective of the town.
Even though this municipality is quite populous, with over 20,000 inhabitants, in my opinion, it's a beautiful combination of history, art, and natural beauty all together. What struck me immediately is how well they've preserved the history of this place. Unfortunately, in other parts of Italy, many historical monuments, or even some medieval gates, have been destroyed over the years. Here, I've noticed that things have been very well preserved, and that's a great thing.
Naturally, I indulged in my usual walk through the streets of this town, the slowest way to observe everything. I was immediately greeted by a lovely four-legged friend at the entrance to this municipality.
I also stopped to admire a beautiful capital, a religious architectural structure very common not only in Tuscany but throughout Italy. I especially admired how it was frescoed inside.
Continuing my walk, I noticed that the town is adorned with many flowers, and I discovered why. These flowers help the local bee population thrive, and you know how important it is for our existence that bees can spread.
I admired some beautiful buildings and appreciated that the municipality has placed informational signs specifically for tourists, which is certainly very useful for understanding the history of these places. As I continued my walk, I noticed that this town is very lively and quite frequented by people. It's always so impressive to pass under these enormous medieval gates, which still tower today.
As I mentioned, parts of the medieval walls that surrounded this town have been preserved over time. They're not in perfect condition, but I thought they would be much worse.
Lastra a Signa is also considered the city of stone because nearby are the sandstone quarries that have been used for numerous constructions in Tuscany, and are still partly used today.
I hope the photos I've shared have brought you along on this exploration with me, and I can't wait to share more of my discoveries and exciting walks with you. See you soon!
