Hello, dear friends!

Unfortunately, I haven't been very active in the community lately because a few weeks ago, I had a minor car accident. Nothing serious, but you know how it goes with these things – I've been very busy searching for a new car and dealing with the paperwork from the accident, which, as usual, takes up a lot of time.

So, I have a lot of photographic material to share with you and many places to show you! Honestly, during these holidays, I traveled quite a bit, although they were very short, and now I’ve had to return to work.
Today, specifically in this post, I want to talk to you about Filettole, a picturesque village in the municipality of Vecchiano in the province of Pisa, located in one of my absolute favorite regions: Tuscany.

Perhaps I’ve already mentioned this place because I’ve visited it several times. A dear friend of mine lives nearby, but this village, situated practically on the right bank of the Serchio River, is believed to date back to Roman times. However, while walking through the town, I didn’t notice anything from that era.

The village certainly has some medieval elements, starting with the Torre dell’Aquila (Tower of the Eagle), which is visible as soon as you arrive. It was the first thing I noticed when I began my exploration and simple walk through the streets of this beautiful village.
The locals also call it the “Segata Tower,” likely because it seems to have been altered over time, making it shorter than the typical medieval towers found in the area. However, that’s just my assumption.

I did notice that the village is quite simple and doesn’t have many Christmas decorations, though it remains well-kept. From the photos, you can see that there’s little left of the medieval core. Imagine that this settlement was in a very strategic position on the border between Pisa and Lucca, and it was contested many times. I read in some history books that several battles took place here to control the area due to its strategic importance for trade.

Unfortunately, some houses here are in very poor condition. The only church of any significance is the Pieve di Santa Maria Assunta, but as often happens in these small towns, I found it closed.
During my walk, I even stumbled upon a lemon tree. Honestly, I didn’t expect to find lemon trees in this area, but I must say the climate isn’t too cold or harsh, which allows these plants to survive.

Naturally, cats are the unofficial rulers of this village. I counted almost ten of them, and you know how much I love these animals.
In conclusion, I’d say that a visit to Filettole is easy to plan since it’s accessible by car, being a short distance from both Pisa and Lucca. However, public transport can be a bit trickier. The village is lovely, especially during certain times of the year when it keeps its traditions alive with renowned festivals and fairs that celebrate Tuscan culture.

I hope the photos I’ve shared of this beautiful place inspire you to visit. I’ll see you next time and wish you all a wonderful day! 🌟
