Hello dear friends!
I didn't get in touch this weekend because I was quite busy with some explorations, in fact I returned from some relatives in Tuscany after a working break in Piedmont and since I was in the areas of the municipality of Manciano in the province of Grosseto I wanted to visit the Borgo di Montemerano, I had read about this village thanks to the wonderful Noemi, who had shared some photos some time ago, which she had taken during an evening in this place, so intrigued I went to discover this magnificent village that is located more or less on the hills at an altitude of 280 meters above sea level not far from the famous Saturnia Spa Resort that probably many of you know.
As I always say, it is always very interesting to go and discover these places, and I think that this community is an example that can always make you discover new places.
However, returning to Montemerano its origin dates back to the 13th century, as soon as you arrive you can immediately notice the naturally medieval architecture of the town. In fact, fortunately it still preserves its walls intact that practically completely surround the town.
I really appreciated the map that is placed, let's say in the center of the town where you can completely see the points of interest to visit and there is even a tourist office that can certainly be useful for tourists who come to this place for the first time.
What always strikes me about these places is the fact that some streets are really narrow but sometimes also very steep, it is practically impossible to travel them by car but perhaps it is fortunate for these towns, because you can walk around them calmly on foot.
Continuing my walk, I could notice that fortunately some shops resist over time but certainly the thing that struck me most of all are these houses with this almost living stone as a testimony to the years that these buildings have.
Every now and then when there is a bit of space between one street and another, you find some olive trees that have been planted right inside the town, to remind us that olive groves and oil are something important not only for the economy of Tuscany, but also for what concerns the history of this region.
I remind everyone that since 2001 it seems to me that Montemerano which now has about 40080 inhabitants is recognized as one of the most beautiful villages in Italy, and probably this beauty of its this living a much more relaxed life, here the population is going against the trend that is almost increasing, In my opinion because tourism also brings something really important from an economic point of view.
I was very happy, because I was finally able to visit a church in these villages where it is usually closed, and it was the church of San Giorgio a church that dates back to the fourteenth century main church of the village, and I was able to admire the interior that was truly beautiful with these frescoes that seemed truly alive.
I must say, that I was very impressed by this village, because here they managed to do a job of valorization from a tourist point of view, but at the same time, they still managed not to create that mass tourism, and therefore to make it a relaxing place for even a simple walk.
I hope that my photos have somehow brought you virtually with me, I hope that you will have the opportunity to visit it, see you in my next post and I wish you all a good start to the week
