Hello, dearest friends!
It is with great pleasure that I write this post. Let’s say it’s another continuation of my exploration in the province of Arezzo. This special place can also be visited alongside the locations I’ve shared in previous posts. I hope this idea is intriguing for those who’d like to connect a series of small towns that, in my opinion, are absolutely worth visiting. Together, they will certainly fill your day with beauty and discovery.
This place is called Badia Agnano, located in the municipality of Bucine, in the province of Arezzo. Here, you’ll also find a very special abbey: the Abbey of Santa Maria. To orient yourself, Badia Agnano is about 45 km southeast of Florence and 20 km west of Arezzo, situated in the gorgeous Val d’Ambra valley, which I’ve already mentioned in earlier posts.
When I arrived and began my walk, I was immediately struck by the tall houses here. The construction in this area seems to have developed vertically. I must say, though, that everything is incredibly beautiful and well-preserved. From what I gathered, only a few people live here, but the village is maintained wonderfully.
I didn’t meet many people on the streets, but what amazed me the most was walking beneath these tall houses with their stunning arches. These arches connect the roads seamlessly, creating a unique layout where the houses seem to fit together like pieces of a puzzle.
As I wandered, I reached the main church, which was fortunately open. Inside, I managed to take some photos. It’s a typical medieval church—simple, well-maintained, and austere, with few frescoes. Yet, its simplicity is captivating, evoking powerful emotions despite its lack of ornate decoration.
I continued exploring the ever-narrowing streets of the village. Despite the seemingly chaotic construction, the houses somehow maintain a harmonious rhythm. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find anyone to chat with, but the prevailing atmosphere of tranquility and peace was undeniable—something I find difficult to fully capture in my photos.
I also tried to locate a small museum that, according to what I’ve heard, was established here by a group dedicated to historical research. However, my search didn’t bear fruit this time—I couldn’t find it! This gives me an excellent reason to return and perhaps discover it on my next visit.
As always, thank you for taking the time to read this post. I hope you enjoyed the photos, and I’ll see you on my next adventure!
