George Washington's Mount Vernon

in Worldmappin2 years ago (edited)

Today is Independence Day in America and I want to share George Washington's home, Mount Vernon, in Virginia.

George Washington was America's first president and he did not sign the Declaration of Independence. Why? Because in 1776 he was the general of the army and they were in New York protecting it from the British. He got word and a copy of the declaration on 5 days later, on July 9th.

He became the president 13 years later on February 4, 1789. George Washington owned the Mount Vernon plantation from 1761-1799.

He was often (14 years) called away from his beloved Mount Vernon to serve in the army and the presidency.

  • Revolutionary War 1775-1781
  • First term 1789-1792
  • Second term 1793-1797

I was surprised at the amount of color inside!

It was so nice to be able to go back to Mount Vernon again. It is not far from DC and if you have a car while you are there, it is definitely worth a visit!

I've been to Monticello, Jefferson's house, but not to Mount Vernon. Definitely need to go!

LOVE that blue room especially, that's so pretty!

I really like historic homes and made it to the first 5 presidents homes when I lived in DC.

So cool! I enjoy historic homes as well, how fun that you've been to several of them.

Thanks for sharing. I like the interior design.

Happy American Independence's Day Sara.

George Washington's home is a beautiful house with many original features and it is definitely a great place to visit if anyone is interested in American history. It looks cozy and royal in George and Martha's room. :) Thanks for the tour. I learn something today about this historic site and the America's first president :)

He Trang, how is Australia? So glad you liked the post. I learned more about George Washington as I made the post. I just posted the outside of Mount Vernon today.

It's cold here, Sara, but everything's fine in Aus, and I'm going to settle down here with my boyfriend for a while. Currently, I'm working fulltime to save money first then will get ready for the adventures when the summer comes. :)
