Norway's Route 7: Scenic drive from Sekse to Hagafoss

in Worldmappin2 years ago (edited)

The drive along the 7 from Sekse to Hagafoss was wonderful!

One of my favorite things about our trip is that we rented a car and could stop whenever we wanted. Some stops like Voringfoss were a must see and some like Makka Pakka we noticed as we were driving by.

Here is a look at the part of Norway we were in and then a closer look at the route (7) and the stops that we made along the way. We went along the Hardagerfjord and then across the Hardager Plateau.

Our stops

Sekse Fruit Farm

This is where our Airbnb was located and is a gorgeous part of Norway! From the Airbnb we could see a branch of the Hardangerfjord. There were grass roofed house and quaint narrow country roads.

The people that owned the Airbnb were multigenerational fruit farms, mainly apples. They were such good apples too!

Grocery Shopping in Ullensvang

After leaving our Airbnb we stopped at the first grocery store along the way, in Ullensvang. It was nice. Lots of parking and a good selection of food. We got bread, crackers, cheese, chocolate, fruit and drinks.

We ate out of the car often as we were constantly on the road. Fun Fact: There is a fun bread slicer in this grocery store that we were very excited to use... multiple times.

Eidfordvatnet

We pulled over to take pictures of this lake. I did a post called Channeling my inner Ansel Adams in Norway. The lake is 1.37 sq miles (3.55-square-kilometre) and located right next to Eidfjord.

Voringfoss

This is a really great area to see Voring Falls--this waterfall has a total drop of 597 feet (182 metres) and has a run of 400 feet (122 metres). There are a lot of different look out areas and a very unique bridge.

The whole area is really beautiful and the Fossli Hotel located on the hill. While there are lots of tourists it didn't feel crowded.

Hardangervidda

This is the largest plateau in Europe and has cold year-round alpine climate. It is protected by the Hardangervidda National Park and is above the tree line. It has the largest herds of wild reindeer in the world. We were there in late September and there was not any snow yet, the snow poles show how high the snow can get at this elevations (average elevation is 3,600 feet and 1,100 meteres)

Makka Pakka's Field

This area on Lake Orteren is covered in thousands of cairns and according to Google Maps is called Makka Pakka's field, after the lovable character in In the Night Garden.

Gorgeous fall colors at Sloddfjorden Lake

Right on Sloddfjorden Lake we found a great turn out to park and wandered around taking pictures of these trees in peak fall colors.

Hagafoss

Hagafoss is small little village in the Hol municipality, right were the 7 goes east and the 50 goes west. As we came into town we found these buildings right on the water and stopped to get pictures!

Then we went over to the picturesque red church and it's beautiful cemetery.

This is a great scenic drive in this part of Norway. I would like to drive the length of route 7 some day. We only did 91 miles (148km) of it and I was amazed at the beauty and variety.

Hi @mitch18 so great to have you along with me on this drive in gorgeous Norway!

Hi there, @sjarvie5. 😃 I agree Norway is gorgeous. I love the green vegetation around your Airbnb. It's so fine. The park at Sloddfjorden Lake is colourful or maybe it's your camera that brings out the beauty. 😃

Your pictures are lovely and the way you put your post together is exquisite. Thanks for sharing. 😊😊

Hi @ladytitan. Thanks so much. I especially appreciate your comment about the post as I did something a little different with this post with the headers.

True, the headers make your post stand out. 😊

Wow! Everything is stunning, the places you stops, the colors. And ohh that grass roof house is an eye grabbing. and I feel the fun when you guys did a stone balancing. 🤩💪

Hi @franzpaulie thanks so much. Yes, the grass on the roof was so interesting, in this part of Norway they were all over the roofs!

That really does look like an awesome road trip route - just stunning scenery !
!LUV

Agreed! I am guessing that almost any road would be a great road trip in Norway!

Wow! this is just wow! every place is so great and so wonderful. This is the advantage of having a car that you can stop wherever you want. Aside you will enjoy the view you will also enjoy capturing those places.

Wow! thats a lot of apples. I thought apple came from a huge trees but oh small trees with a lot of fruits.

Hi Jen. The apples trees I have seen here in America are all very tall too. It was interesting to see them so short and more like bushes.

Ah really? there are apples in huge and tall trees too? Yes those apple in their place is just small and not that long. It seems that we can pick them up by just standing.

What to say about Norway, a country that I want to visit on a motorbike to get to the Nordkapp, seeing your trip through your photos makes me want to go more!

That would be great on your motorbike, you could definitely stop wherever you want! If you are going all the way to the top then you'll have to do it in the summer. :)

very good recap of your trip, putting it all together I can realize how good and magical it was! You really gave me a lot of love for traveling...

unfortunately I can't go on a trip so soon because I'm collecting money to buy a new camera and be able to improve in this art that in the future will surely give me work to do!, invest now, enjoy later.

Yes, for sure. That is a great strategy. You can invest in the camera and take pictures of place close to you and get good at blogging. That will help you travel later on.

I'm a seeker of outstanding landscapes offered by nature but not for a few times, I ended up surprised with what my eyes got to see. So I consider "scenic" as being such a tiny word for the journey you had :)

Hi Gabriel, That is true. I am not sure the better word, it was wonderful. @malos10 used the word magical. :) It was stunning for sure!
