Share Our World: Canyonlands National Park Overview

in Worldmappin3 years ago

It is definitely time that I finish up my Southern Utah posts. Today, I am doing an overview of Canyonlands National Park.

Canyonlands National Park

Canyonlands National Park was established in 1964 and is 337,598 acres in southern Utah near Moab. It has Four distinct areas with the Island Sky District near Moab getting 76% of the park visitors. 1

Needles
Island in the Sky
The Maze
Rivers

We went to three distinct places in Canyonlands in both the Needles and Island in the Sky districts.

Pothole Point Trail

Pothole Point Trail is located in the Needles District closer to Monticello, Utah than Moab, Utah. It is very easy and interesting hike. The hike is a .6 mile flat loop and there are great views and cryptobiotic soil to be careful to not disturb.

Mesa Arch

Mesa Arch was our next destination in Canyonlands was Mesa Arch. A very popular destination in Canyonlands. It is located in the Island in the Sky district. It is also a very short and easy hike- .7 mile loop.

We went for sunrise with many other photographers!

Once the hard core photographers left we enjoyed taking pictures in front of it.

I was also pleasantly surprised at the beautiful views from and around the arch.

Green River Overlook

Green River Overlook is also in the Island in the Sky district and close to Mesa Arch. It is a .2 mile out and back flat trail that has amazing views from 6,000 feet above the canyon floor. 1
I had a very special and spiritual experience looking out over this beautiful, unique and immense landscape.

Canyonlands is a huge national park and we explored 3 parts of it and a had a great time. There is so much to see and do. I would love to go back soon.

Wow! The Mesa Arch is gorgeous Sara. I imagine photographers only have a very very short window to capture that sunrise shot?

Once the hard core photographers left

Surely that's you guys!! 😉

Ha ha that is true. We (Scotty and I) are kinda hardcore. Some of the other people made me feel like I wasn't though.

I was about to message you, we miss you Sara. You're back and show us more stunning shots. Canyonlands National Park is truly gorgeous ♥️
Nature never goes out of style.

Hi @trangbaby That is so sweet of you. Thanks! I miss being on Hive. I am thinking about the best way that I can do what I need to do and still blog as often.

These are Mesmerizing, I wouldn't mind visiting this place 🙂♥️

Hi @burodaade thanks for your comment. If you go to Utah you should visit!

This corner of Utah is beautiful. I went to uni in Denver and would often take road trips out this way.

Hi @leifasaur That is so great that you were able to visit Utah when you were living in Colorado (which is also amazingly beautiful). I lived in Utah for years. I did my undergrad at BYU and this was my first time to this part of southern Utah. So worth the trip.

Stunning! It is so beautiful 🥰
