Kurultai Festival in Hungary

in Worldmappin3 years ago

Every year in the town of Bugac, on the territory of the Kishkunshag National Park, the Great Kurultai of the Turkic peoples is held - a colourful ethnic festival.

During this period, the Hungarian steppe is filled with the clanging of swords, the whistling of arrows, the clatter of hooves and the clicking of shepherd's whips. The sounds of the ancient instrument shan-kobyz and shaman tambourines are set again, and the air is shaken by the guttural pagan shouts of welcome.

Last summer I was lucky to go to this festival and see everything with my own eyes. What is a truly hot festival? This is a festival where +37 is in the shade, and in the yurt, it is two degrees lower...

As a rule, more than 27 nations take part in this festival. Today Kurultay is a Hungarian tribal meeting, which is the largest traditional event of the Hungarians and all of Europe. It is carried out with the participation of over one hundred Hungarian traditional and non-governmental organizations in the Carpathian Basin.

More than a hundred horsemen and thousands of merchants (mainly in ancient Hunnic, Avar and Hungarian costumes and armour) take an active part in it. The main goal of the event is to unite representatives of the Turkic world and demonstrate samples of their national culture.

Kurultay in Bugats is a grandiose event that includes theatrical shows, musical performances, archaeological and anthropological exhibitions, and a craft fair.
It was very interesting and unusual to see more than a hundred yurts on the territory of the Kishkunshag National Park, which was used both for housing and as tents for the sale of products and souvenirs. At such a fair, one could buy traditional souvenirs and medieval weapons and armour.

And one of the artisans, a blacksmith, installed a forge and an anvil right in the field and demonstrated in real-time all the stages of the transformation of iron from ore into a spearhead.
