One day in the fall of 2024, I went on a day trip to the Sázava region. As a starting destination, I chose a small town on the banks of the Sázava River called Týnec nad Sázavou. Although I had been to this town countless times. I had never visited the local castle. So I decided to fix that.
Jednoho dne v průběhu podzimu roku 2024 jsem se vydal na jednodenní výlet do Posázaví. Jako startovní destinaci jsem vybral malé městečko na břehu řeky Sázavy, které se jmenuje Týnec nad Sázavou. Jelikož jsem v tomto městě byl nespočetněkrát. Nikdy jsem nenavštívil místní hrad. Proto jsem se rozhodl to napravit.
And because the castle is located in the middle of the private houses, it is not easy to take a picture of the overall view of the building. I was successful only through the gate of one of the neighboring houses.
A protože hrad leží uprostřed zástavby. Tak není jednoduché vyfotit celkový pohled na stavbu. Úspěšný jsem byl pouze přes bránu jednoho ze sousedních domů.
I looked around the area, which is a tiny bit around the castle, and headed to the ticket office where I bought a ticket. I don't remember now whether it was 50 or 100 Czech Koruna. And the ticket included entry to the Town Museum.
Prohlédl jsem si okolí, což je malinkatý kousek okolo hradu a zamířil k pokladně, kde jsem si koupil vstupenku. Teď si nepamatuji zda to bylo 50 nebo 100,- Korun Českých. Ale součástí vstupného byl i vstup do Městského muzea.
A small museum focused on the surroundings of the town. Where you can see everything from local costumes to local specific stoneware. And in two other rooms, which serve as galleries, there were paintings by a local artist on the theme of flowers. The exhibitions change regularly, so you will probably come across something different when you visit.
Malé muzeum zaměřené na okolí městečka. Kde je v vidění od místních krojů po zdejší specifikum. Kameninové nádobí. A ve dvou dalších místnostech, které slouží jako galerie byli k vidění obrazy jedné místní autorky na téma květiny. Výstavy se pravidelně mění, takže při návštěvě narazíte pravděpodobně na něco jiného.
After visiting the museum, I headed to the castle, whose history dates back to the mid-11th century. From this time, a Romanesque rotunda has been preserved, where masses are sometimes held. The first written mention of the castle is from 1318.
Po prohlídce muzea jsem zamířil do hradu jehož historie sahá do poloviny 11. století. Z této doby se dochovala románská rotunda, kde se občas stále konají mše. První písemná zmínka o hradu je z roku 1318.
When entering the stone staircase, you have to bend a little, because people in the Middle Ages were smaller and it also made it difficult to conquer the castle in heavy armor. The staircase takes you to the first floor of the Gothic tower.
Při vstupu na kamenné schodiště je nutné se trochu ohnout, protože lidí ve středověku byli menší a také to ztěžovalo dobývání hradu v těžkém brnění. Po schodišti se dostaneme do prvního patra gotické věže.
The first floor at the time of my visit was used as an exhibition of bizarre dresses by one of the local fashion designers. It seemed quite creepy to me.
První patro v době mé návštěvy sloužilo jako výstava bizarních šatů jedné z místních modních návrhářek. Na mě to působilo dost creepy.
The second floor is reachable by a wooden staircase into a dark room. Because this place was chosen as its summer residence by the Great Bat, which is protected. Because it is a critically endangered species. At the time of my visit, there were no more of them here. They have probably already moved to their wintering grounds.
Do druhého patra cesta vede po dřevěném schodišti do temné místnosti. Protože si toto místo vybral jako své letní sídlo Netopýr velký, který je chráněn. Protože se jedná o silně ohrožený druh. V době mojí návštěvy zde již žádní nebyli. Pravděpodobně se přesunuli již do svých zimovišť.
On the way to the top floor, I noticed old dishes by one of the windows that had already been taken by spiders.
Cestou do posledního patra jsem si u jednoho z oken všiml starého nádobí, které si již vzali za své pavouci.
The roof of the castle was recently renovated. And since it is a monument, all the materials were made by hand in the old-fashioned way. Including the shingle roofing. You need soft wood, a saw, an axe and a lot of time. Accuracy is not really a factor here.
Střecha hradu prošla v nedávné době rekonstrukcí. A jelikož se jedná o památku, všechen materiál byl vyroben pěkně po staru ručně. Včetně šindelové krytiny. Potřebujete k tomu měkké dřevo, pilu, sekeru a spoustu času. Na přesnost se zde opravdu nehraje.
There are also several windows on this floor that you can open and look out at the new part of the town, which isn't exactly beautiful. Because it was largely an industrial city. Where Jawa motorcycles were even produced, which were world leaders in the 1960s.
V tomto patře je i několik oken, které je možné si otevřít a podívat se na novou část městečka. Která není zrovna nijak nádherná. Protože to bylo z velké části průmyslové město. Kde se dokonce vyráběli motocykly značky Jawa což byla v 60. letech 20. století světová špička.
Or on the other side, to the old part. But there, again, the sun was shining badly.
Nebo na druhou stranu do staré části. Ale tam zase špatně svítilo protislunce.
There was nothing left to do but to climb down the stairs and head towards the complex entrance. And head towards Konopiště Castle. Where I had planned to reach along the Via Czechia - central trail. But more about that next time. See you later.
Nezbývalo nic jiného než slézt dolů po schodištích a zamířit směrem ke vstupu do areálu. A vydat se směrem zámek Konopiště. Kam jsem měl v plánu dojít po stezce Via Czechia - centrální. Ale o tom někdy příště. Na viděnou.

Your post brings back many fond memories! I love historic buildings like this - it's fascinating to see what people were thinking about back then. I find it particularly impressive that the staircases were deliberately built small to make it difficult for attackers. It's hard to believe that my last visit to Pilsen and Prague was almost three years ago! I have so many fond memories of it and look forward to exploring more of your beautiful country - and of course enjoying the delicious food and excellent Pilsner beer.
