I almost forgot to share my travel experince to one of the holliest Buddhist site in India. I went to explore this place few month ago on a one day tour. I felt kind of spiritually connected even on a hot sunny day. The place which I am talking about and many of my buddhist follower know is about sarnath.
Sarnath in Varanasi is known to be the place of Gautama Buddha. The place is very famous for Dhamek Stupa. As I found out these picture in my gallery, I thought to share my experince over there.
The best time to visit Sarnath is between October to March. However, I went to this place in the month of June when the temperature is at its peak. It was so hot that I need to cover my head with a cloth to protect from sun stoke. It was quite difficult to take an entire walk to the lawn still I manage to cover as much as possible.
There were many stories associated with this place. Right at the entrance you will find the entire Map of the are, which I unable to understand at first. I went there to know why sarnath is so famous for.
Sarnath is basically famous for the Dhamek Stupa. It is one of the most important sights in Sarnath and its mostly due to its antiquity and significance of being the exact spot of Buddha's first sermon. These Stupa were built by king Ashoka.
These stupaa are generally cylindrical shape solid structure.
In Buddhism, the earliest stupas contained portions of the Buddha's ashes, and as a result, the stupa began to be associated with the body of the Buddha. Adding the Buddha's ashes to the mound of dirt activated it with the energy of the Buddha himself.
The present diameter of this solid cylindrical tower is 28.5mtr at the base, 33.35 more in height. It's total height is 39.05 more including the foundation. The remain of this Stupa still have besutifully carved designs pattern, leafs and floral designs. Giving it a masterclass of thr ancient time.
As per the inscription dated 1026 AD, the place is known as Dharma Chakra Stupa, it is perhaps commemorating the exact spot where Gautam Budha preached his first sermon
It is a buddhiat excavation site and we'll Maintained by the Archaelogical Survey of India. The area is well spread with lush green covers and also the remains can be seen easily. The place was completelly ruined by a Turkish invader and destroyed all the an isn't set up. Here are some more pictures from the site area.
I am falling short of words to explain each details of this spritual place. The place has amazing set up that gives some connection vibes to every travellor. Many people visited this place and so does me. A new places added to my travel list. Hope you enjoyed the little tour of this place.
Wow! A very impressive place for Buddhists. I didn’t have the chance to visit India. Several friends had made their pilgrimage to holy sites in India long time ago. I could see how grand this place was in the past. It has amazing vibes too.
Do plan to come down to the holliest cities of Gaya and sarnath....you definatelly feel some.connection. I could not all the memories due to extreme sun and it was trip done few months ago
I used to dream about some of these places when I was very young. It was as if I went back to the past life. The green fields and many villagers shouting in excitement about the Buddha’s arrival in the area. He was giving a sermon somewhere and people gathered to see Him. I couldn’t remember whether I had been to listen to his teachings. If I had been there, I wouldn’t be here today!
Yup, I would love to visit these holy places one day. I did ask a monk to tell me in detail about his experience. I ought to have been there ages ago. Perhaps if it meant to be, I would be visiting these holy sites.
