Not sure Wat Pho I visited this temple

in Worldmappin2 years ago

I recently decided tot visit a temple here in Thailand and a friend of mine recommended that I start with Wat Phra Chetuphon Wimon Mangkhalaram Rajwaramahawihan also known as Wat Pho.

The title of this post is just meant to be funny by the way the place was super cool and I am happy I decided to visit it. It's also pronounced "wat po" so it doesn't really make sense lol. When you first get there you will notice that it's a very calm place. At least when I went there since there were not a lot of people there at all. This temple has a lot of Chinese influence which you will see in some of the photos.

It's a really interesting place and is one of the earliest places of public education in Thailand. Also it's known as the birthplace of the Thai Massage we know today. You can get massages there but I didn't get one because it was such a hot day. I just couldn't handle it that time.

There are a lot of cats around the place and of course monks and Buddha statues.

It was also nice to see some statues without their heads chopped off like in my previous post. The place is filled with them. The most famous attraction of this temple however is the huge reclining Buddha. It's a 46 meter long Buddha that is inside one of the buildings. This is how he looks

I was told that this is the pose he chose to die in. Which to be honest looks like a pretty comfortable way to say goodbye. The walls are covered with illustrations that show the life of the Buddha and I thought it looked so cool.

These are his feet. A lot of detail in each square and they did a really good job of making this statue look amazing.

After seeing the reclining Buddha we decided to start leaving the place since we were all really sweaty and just needed to get into a place with AC where we could have a drink or two. It was a cool day in general though and I enjoyed walking around this beautiful temple.

This is the last photo I took that day on our way out. You can find these buildings called Pagodas at each of these temples and they look amazing in my opinion. These were in really good shape too compared to the last temple I visited. I really do recommend visiting this temple if you are ever in Bangkok. There are a lot of other things to do around the place too like going for a boat ride in the river or heading to Khaosan road which is also not too far away.

That's it for today and I really hope you like the photos as much as I liked visiting this amazing place. I will continue to visit more cool places like this in the coming days and posting them here. Thanks for all the support I've received so far. See ya next time!

Cool photos! Glad they have a shorter name for the temple, lol. Now I need to think of a cool position to die in as well.

Thanks! Yeah lol that one is kinda long. Haha well there's many to choose from.

Haha, I hope to go out in some position from the Kama Sutra but will also accept taking a bullet for a dog.

You should try Thai massage next time.

I've tried it a few times already but would be pretty cool trying it in the temple so I guess I'll have to go back there some day.

nice photo. the last i have been to Thailand was many years ago. missing it.

This is my first time and I love it.

Beautiful pictures that show the authenticity of the place and the historical machine for it. Well done in choosing the place

You are taking some really cool pics duude. I think from this moment on I will start creating the perfect pose to say goodbye to this world as well :P

Lovely pictures

Another beauty post. Do they have a cooler season there? I am not a fan of heat or humidity but it looks like it might be worth the suffering.

Yeah I think the winter season begins this month or the next one so it will be cooler but also raining most of the time.

so beautiful! Thanks for sharing! I loved that wall full of statues and of course the architecture of the temple

Thanks, it really was an amazing place. I loved it as well.
