Do you know who he is? π
This dude is very famous in Russia.
I wonder how in other countries π€
In the English-language Wikipedia, it is called "Homunculus loxodontus". Homunculus loxodontus, nicknamed Zhdun ("The One Who Waits"), is a statue by Dutch artist Margriet van Breevoort. It was made for the Leiden University Medical Center and installed in the spring of 2016. It became popular in post-Soviet countries where it is called Zhdun (Russian) / Pochekun (Ukrainian) / Pachakun (Belarusian) (Zhdun / Pochekun / Pachakun, meaning βthe awaiterβ).
I was very surprised to find this dude in Leiden, Netherlands. It is literally 15 kilometers from my house π
Almost all Russians go to be photographed with this strange creature. The strangest thing is that there is a sculpture right in a medical hospital.
Imagine the picture: people are being driven around in wheelchairs, medical personnel in white and blue uniforms are walking, an ordinary large hospital. And then tourists come in droves, sit on a bench next to this dude, take pictures, laugh and leave π
I heard that before the statue was on the second floor, but when there were too many tourists, the hospital administration moved it to the hall right next to the entrance. There is no need for strange Russian-speaking tourists to walk around the hospital π
The Russian-language Internet is full of memes about a grandmother (or just loserπ) and a computer. The most famous translates literally as "I pressed something and everything disappeared."
For example, a political topic:
In almost every office, someone has a little Zhdun on the table in the form of a soft toy or figurine. This was a very popular gift at one time. There are many parallels for people working in digital or IT. And about the accountants who are waiting for the payment of the invoice, in general, legends go around Russian offices π
You don't have to say directly that you are expecting something from someone. You just send him a picture with Zhdun and the person immediately understood everything πππ
Once in the fur seal museum on the island of Texel (Netherlands), I accidentally saw a poster listing all types of fur seals. It turned out that Zhdun is visually a complete copy of an elephant seal.
So far, this is my top 1 of the strangest sights.
Have you ever seen anything funny like that?
Cheers Gallyπ
