Never Say Never or How I Became a Diver ๐Ÿ˜‚

in Worldmappin โ€ข 3 years ago (edited)

Hi guys! ๐Ÿ˜

Today, as a result of my unpleasant mistake, chatted with @networkallstar.
And another wave of nostalgia for diving in Tenerife swept over me ๐Ÿ˜†๐Ÿ˜ Be patient!

How did I get started diving?

It all started with the fact that I was very afraid of water, especially of great depth. Well, what a big ... Deeper than waist-deep ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

And so I was offered to go diving in Tenerife. I donโ€™t remember what arguments convinced me not to be afraid and try. And so I go to learn diving.
In Moscow.
In March.

It should be noted that the lessons in the deep pool and a large number of theoretical sessions helped me a lot to feel confident and enjoy the process. After a month and a half, I was the owner of a PADI starter certificate.

The funniest and most frightening thing was to take the exam in open water. We were taken somewhere in the suburbs to a quarry equipped for diving. It is important to say that you cannot swim in practically any lake in Russia ๐Ÿคฃ. This is downright forbidden. In general, I was scared ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜ฑ

This all happened in mid-April. This was the first open water exam of the season. The water temperature was 9 degrees. We were given 8 mm hunting diving suits, which could only be put on after being coated with liquid soap ๐Ÿ˜†. I saw 1 small fish in 3 dives ๐Ÿ˜†. My buddy and I lost each other. I surfaced alone somewhere on the other end of the lake and swam to the meeting point on the surface. The first dive turned out so-so ๐Ÿ˜†๐Ÿ˜†๐Ÿ˜†.

It all looked very strange. Something like this:

In general, you get the idea ๐Ÿ˜‚
The clear sea in Tenerife after such extreme training turned out to be a fairy tale. I became so bold that tech divers took me with them on dives up to 35 meters, on wrecks and downstream dives, where novice divers are not allowed.

Parachuting remained on the list "I will never be". But I will definitely never go for it. ๐Ÿ˜ฑ

Have you ever successfully overcome yourself? ๐Ÿ™‚

Cheers Gally

I'll do it๐Ÿ™‚

Hello @sunny8u, yikes I couldn't imagine dive training in a lake with 9 degrees temp? You mentioned you lost your dive partner, was the water murky? I, too have overcome a deep water fear through scuba diving. I haven't dived for over a year now and your post makes me want to go for a refresher.

Hey @discoveringarni ! How cool it is when people comment on posts๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜˜
I haven't dived for a long time either and was inspired by another user's profile.

Yes, it was a crazy event ๐Ÿ˜‚ In April, Russia is already warm enough, but the water in the lakes has not yet had time to warm up. And yes, the water was very cloudy. Two meters away you can no longer see anything ๐Ÿ˜
Although, local divers have equipped a whole underwater park of cars and trees. It was unexpected to see this surrounded by industrial areas.

Nice to meet you @discoveringarni ๐Ÿ˜˜
Go somewhere to warm countries to go diving. It improves the autumn mood ๐Ÿ˜‹

Ah, 2 meters visibility ๐Ÿ˜ฎ It's nice to meet you Gally! Have a lovely Friday!
