You will be a very lucky person if you marry at a good distant place as that will add some amazing travel story when you will have to pay visits to your law house. My wife's hometown is very far from my hometown, and moreover, the transportation systems are not so convenient there as we need to change several buses with our luggage, which is real trouble here. Though the distance is around 350 km, which is not a good distance for many countries, for Bangladesh, it is a heavy distance with low-standard transportation options. It can be a pleasant journey by private car, but I am unable to afford that still now, and in our country, a Car is a heavily taxed commodity so the price is so high to buy!
But there is the train option. Though we don't have fast trains, we have some amazing trains which are so comfortable on many routes from Dhaka. But neither of mine nor my wife's home is in Dhaka, so we have to choose the medium quality trains which are also so comfortable and relaxing journey. It takes around 5 hours from my nearest railway station to my wife's home's nearest railway station. So, we chose it for our journey, and it was a well-worthy journey by train from the Bheramara Railway Station to the Gopalganj Railway Station. The ticket price was also very low, and it was an intercity train that stops only at major stations, not like a local one that stops at every station around every 3/4 km.
As we were waiting at the railway station, I found this nuts-seller who was looking at the railway path with an absent mind that got my attention. You can find many people selling such nuts, snacks, and fresh fruits in almost every station in Bangladesh.
The Bheramara Railway Station was built during the British Rule all over the Indian Subcontinent, and It was among the first railway stations in Bangladesh. So, it has a very long operating history. The first railway station in Bangladesh was the Jagati Railway Station, which is also in my home district, and that station is just two stations from the Bheramara Railway Station. Still now you can see the old building is used as the Station master's office and ticket counter here in this Railway station.
Though the Railway station from my home was a little far, which is around 20 km, we used a rented three-wheeler that made our journey much more comfortable. And the good thing is that my wife's home is much more close to the Gopalganj Railway station, which will be around 2 km. We waited at the railway for around 1 hour as the train was late for 30 minutes today, which is a common fact in Bangladesh. Though the situation has developed a lot, it is now once or twice a week, but previously it was a daily matter, and you don't know how late the train will be!
During Our waiting time, we enjoyed some nuts and snacks. Also, we had some coffee from a nearby shop. Though the price of the coffee was double that of the other shops, it was still less than 10 cents. In bucks, you can have a lot of snacks in this rural area as most of the people earn around 5/10 bucks in this area, which is sufficient for people living in the villages or small town areas.
We were lucky to have the double seated side of the sitting arrangement for us. It is often difficult to have empty seats at the last moment, so we had our purchased tickets two days earlier through the online ticketing system. It has caused trouble for the people after the govt. Started selling train tickets online. Still, you can have the ticket from the counter also and even on the train when the ticket checker will come to inquire about your tickets.
After it was quite dark, we crossed the Kushtia district as our train was supposed to 5 pm, but it started around 5:30, so we reached Gopalganj around 10:30. And it was a quite night, I did not take any photos of the Gopalganj Railway Station as I was tired to carry a lot of luggage with many things. I hope to share this one in coming days when i will be there again. We took a rickshaw and reached my wife's home safely that day with the memory of some new people with whom we spent the 5 hours on the train. It was a pleasant journey in a single word.
I hope you like my photos of the Bheramara Railway Station and the green and soothing agricultural lands during my train journey to Gopalganj on my last visit to Bangladesh. In most of the rural areas in Bangladesh, you will find the same views, just differences in the crops. If you have any questions, please let me know in the comments, and I will try my best to answer them.
Thanks a lot for your time and attention. I will catch up with you at the next one.
