Walking On The Frozen Huaihe River Before The Year Ends

in Worldmappin5 days ago

Though the snowy day is still missing in Beijing many lakes of the Huarou district have been turned into ice already, especially the smaller rivers and the lakes by the city area with less deep water have been frozen. For my weekend exploration, I went to the Huairou City center area river known as Hauihe River, which is currently frozen as the water level is not high there because the district authority is working on the renovation of the tourist area. Currently, the water flow is halted by the connected channels from the Huairou reservoir, which is a greater lake-like water storage for the city. So the existing smaller deep water of the Huaihe river is now completely frozen as the temperature has gone towards -10 degrees at night and daytime is near 3/4 degrees centigrade.

As winter is showing its strongest face in the area, I live in the Huairou district, which is located far north of Beijing's downtown. The whole morning the temperature stays below the freezing point, age during the afternoon, it starts in the positive direction with an upper limit of 4 degrees nowadays. So, I find so difficult to get up early in the morning to go for a weekend tour in the morning to cover some long-distance locations. So, I am currently visiting the nearby areas which are inside the Huairou district and are uncommon but worthy places to have a good time with nature.

So, after I have slept till noon, to satisfy the whole week's lack of morning sleep especially, I wake up around 12 pm and have my lunch and breakfast together with the biriyani I cooked last night. After taking enough rest, I set out for a short exploration trip to the River bank area during the evening time but nit not the complete darkness. The white ice reflection of the surrounding lights makes the area brighter than other surrounding areas. The location is not so far from the Huairou City center, 700-800 meters which is a walking distance. I go there by a bus that lets me get down in a nearby bus stand. I can take a smaller walk to get there.

The Huaihe River is not a big river, but it is the most spacious river in the area. Most rivers are not rivers; they are just channels that originate from the different water reservoirs in the mountains and bring water to the other areas of the whole district. As the river location where I have walked is very close to the Huairou water reservoir, so this part is the largest area with a wider looking like a separate lake here. So, there was enough space to enjoy the walking there.

As usual, the surrounding view was just like normal winter, with bare trees and a grey-colored world, but the whitish frozen ground made the surroundings stunning. The buildings in the surrounding area are the most expensive residential area of the district, as residents can enjoy great lake views from their apartments. I find a lot of residents from the local area to enjoy their walking on the frozen river as I was there to enjoy the winter vibes.

As we have no snow this year, the frozen water surface river becomes so hard and slippery that the snowy ice is not so tough on the surface level. I found many people facing difficulties with their balance while walking on the slippery ice. I found a lot of children to enjoy their walking on the ice. Luckily my show had enough grip and rubber spikes to protect me from falling on the slippery surface.

It was a great experience to walk on the frozen river, as snow has yet to fall in this part of the world. I feel a more effective activity is walking on the icy river as the slippery surface will make you spend more calories to keep your balance properly. I hope the other lakes will be frozen soon with higher deep water, which is still not properly frozen, and I am going to explore them also in the winter as I have no plan or scope for long-distance travel in this bitter cold season.

I hope you like my photos of the frozen Huaihe River, where I have my first and maybe the last walk on the icy, slippery surface of the year 2024 to enjoy the weekend. It was an amazing experience to experience winter nature in Huairou, to discover different natural beauty, and to enjoy my Beijing life! If you have any queries, let me know in the comments, and I will try my best to answer them.

Thanks a lot for your time and attention. I will catch up with you at the next one.
Wish you a great holiday!
