"Begovaya" is one of the youngest stations of the St. Petersburg Metro. This station began operating in the spring of 2018. This station was named "Begovaya" after the street on which it is located. "Begovaya" may be derived from the words "running" or "equestrian." I used to think that the name had some historical roots, that this area could have been home to a stadium, sports base, or at least a hippodrome. But it turned out that no, the name was given at random - or maybe it was given in advance? In the hope that the district's residents would get involved in running and other sports on a mass scale?

For the design of the metro station, orange was chosen as the main color and the station turned out very bright. In real life it looks even brighter than in the photos, because in real life you don't have the opportunity to look away from the screen to a calmer color scheme. Orange is said to be uplifting, but I think the station workers get tired of it.

Glass walls with automatic sliding doors are installed on the edges of the platform. This was done for passenger safety. There are several old stations in St. Petersburg where the same solution was implemented, but earlier ordinary walls of bricks were built between the trains and the platform, and the doors were made of iron. Later it turned out that stations with such fences are more complicated and more expensive to operate. I'm glad that this engineering solution is back again, it significantly improves metro safety.

Begovaya is the terminus station. Looking at this photo, one gets the impression that people are waiting for the train, but in fact it is the opposite: these people have just arrived and are now waiting for their friends to get off the subway and go for a walk together in the park, which is located nearby.

The decoration of the station is related to the name of another street on the surface, it is dedicated to the theme of aviation. The lights on the columns resemble propellers. The decorative panels depict airplanes and various fragments of their mechanisms. A special technique called "lenticular printing" was used to make these panels. When viewed from different angles, the image changes slightly, it looks like a three-dimensional image.
