Hello dear Hive community!
During my world trip in 2011, I had the opportunity to gather first-hand experience of working as a photographer in Erumeli for a month during the Ayuuppa Swami Festival. Right at the beginning I noticed that it goes here at night really to the point and the travellers come together, make music, cook or eat together. This meant for me, of course, that I would have less sleep. This nightlife here in Erumeli made me feel the energy and excitement of the travellers who came from far away to visit the temple deep in the jungle. I approached swamis from the street to ask them if they would like to come to my friend's photo studio to be photographed with the backdrop of the Sabarimala temple.
It was an exciting time, where I grew beyond my horizon and got to know the area and the people.
My daily routine was very structured, when I think about it today, we got up at 7 or 6 in the morning to take our first shower with cold water earlier in the morning. Showering in the morning has a great importance for the people here, because the second ritual after the puya at home was visiting the nearby temple. The puya is something like a mixture of cleaning the house and the body and saying mantra and also doing some yoga in the morning. When my friend Anil with his family then came from the temple, they always brought things like small flowers or something sweet, so they can put it to their own temple in their home.
As you can see here in this video, the nights always felt with lots of music and dancing. It was a unique opportunity to be so close to a South Indian family and to accompany them during their daily routine and to help sell many pictures.
Since making movies and capturing moments is a big passion of mine, sharing them with a wider population which appreciate them, means even more to me. If you would like to support me, join me on my journeys and subscribe to my YT channel.
Lots of Love,
Steffen
