Hi dear Hive community,
Time spent in a good company is never wasted. Last weekend it was a good weather forecast and we still had no plans so far.
Spontaneously, I decided to call my younger sister Maja and spend some time together. Who would have thought that growing up also means not much time for friends and quality time.
At first we were not sure where to go. We definitely wanted to visit something new. At last we decided to visit a very famous waterfall in Slovenia called Peričnik waterfall.
It's a magnificent waterfall located in the beautiful Vrata valley (Triglav National Park), about half an hour drive from Bled (another famous place to visit in Slovenia). It actually falls down in two steps and consists of two waterfalls: the upper fall is 16 meters high and the lower fall 52 meters.

For that we needed to wake up early before the sunrise. We were driving around 2 hours. From Soča Valley you need to go to Predil Pass and cross Italy and Austria, and funny reach Northern Slovenia again. It's a shortcut, since big mountains are natural obsticals and there is no other way.
We visited Kranjska Gora and from there we drove even further to Mojstrana. There was our parking place for the day. We continue by foot and walked on a road and later on a small forest pathway. We met noone. The only sound was the river, which was following along the path and birds waking up.
The valley was still in fog and without sun, I must admit that it was really cold. Soft wind breeze was blowing in our face, but we embrace it and tried to enjoy it.
After crossing a small wooden bridge we came to the starting point to visit the notorious waterfall. From there leads a circular path to the waterfall. One part includes also going below it. This full round lasts around half an hour, which was a little to less for us. With parking in the village we extended our hike to one hour and a half.
The timing was perfect - it was around 10 in the morning when we reached. The sun which was hiding behind the mountains finally came out. It lighted directly on the waterfall, which shined in all it's glory. On top of that, the light together with water creates a special effect that we call rainbow. There were plenty of those.
Path goes behind the waterfall and you can walk on very narrow path digged into the mountain. From top a lot of drops are falling, therefore it's recommended to have a rainjacket. It's winter time and very slippery. Many visitors didn't want to risk it. We are used of all kind of terrains and have no fear of hight. For us it was full of the adrenalin and we also got the best photos!
There was quite some people there, maybe because of the weekend and nice weather. I'm always happy to visit popular places in Slovenia like this one off season. It's much less crowded and you can easily take good photos (without all the tourist in the background).
Big red signboard was saying to continue upward for another smaller waterfall. There we were almost alone and we took a break to snack and drink some warm tea. Our frozen fingers were happy to hold onto something warm. Smaller waterfall was in my opinion even nicer than the Main one. The surrounding and rocks are made in a way that it looks like from some childhood fairytale. This one had bigger pool and was spreading much more droplets of water everywhere around.
After the waterfalls we went to the city to have a nice Saturday lunch. The day continued visiting other sightseeings and old city centers. It was definitely a day well spent!
Thank you for reading.
Wish you a nice day!
