Linh Ung Pagoda in Bai But is one of the three sacred pagodas that form a spiritual " triangle ".
Locate
Linh Ung Pagoda is located on Son Tra Peninsula, about 11 km from the center of Da Nang to the pagoda. The pagoda was built facing the sea, with its back leaning against the primeval forest. This is indeed a prime location for religious buildings.
Sophisticated architecture
The pagoda consists of many gates and towers that are elaborately carved. Dragon-shaped roof tiles with pillars are engraved with Chinese characters - a feature of the northern sect's architecture. The main hall has three statues of Buddha Amitabha, Guan Yin Bodhisattva, and Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva carved vividly. These three statues are placed in the front so that visitors can pray and burn incense.
Guan Yin Buddha statue
This place has the tallest Guan Yin Buddha statue in Vietnam. The statue is about 70 meters high - as tall as a building of twenty storeys. It is not difficult to recognize that this is the symbol of Linh Ung pagoda at Bai But. The Guan Yin Bodhisattva statue is so great that when you go anywhere along the coast, you can see it.
Spiritual " triangle "
It is said that three Linh Ung pagodas in three different positions form a sturdy tripod to guard Danang City. Citizens believe in a spiritual story about three pagodas named Linh Ung. Since the last pagoda was built, the fierce typhoons affecting Da Nang have decreased significantly. Moreover, there were a lot of coincidences happening. With two overpass projects and cancer hospital construction, everything went smoothly. That makes local people believe in supernatural forces actively affecting the municipality's operations.
My feeling
What a sacred and peaceful place. The pagoda is far from the hustle and bustle municipal center and locating opposite the sea. That's why it usually has a cool climate. Quiet space makes me relax. I like going to Linh Ung pagoda not only to pray but also to enjoy the great landscape here. Behind the pagoda is a large forest with many wild animals living. You can see monkeys begging for food without fear of tourists. Humans and wildlife have never lived so closely. How meaningful a symbol is.
This looks absolutely gorgeous
