Before leaving the coast to return to the inland, we visited a beach with shipwrecks named Skeleton Coast. It is a wild seashore with a lot of shipwrecks and whales skeletons’ created because of the wilderness of this coast.
On our way to Damaraland, we stayed for one night in Omaruru – in Central Hotel Omaruru.
Omaruru is a nice town and reaffirmed my position that you have to leave the German-influenced spots and mix with natives in order to comprehend the area. I also recommend our hotel, as the owners were quite helpful and the rooms were big and comfortable, at a reasonable price.
While you are in Omaruru, you can visit Kashana for dinner – it is quite good.
Next day we kicked off for Damaraland and ultimately the Twyfelfontein Country Lodge. This is an ancient region of Namibia where you may find ancient remains in the desert. It is engravings declaring that there was life once upon a time here...
We stayed at the Twyfelfontein Country Lodge which was quite nice! As this place is an oligopoly and is kind of expensive for our budget, we stayed in Guide Rooms which were half the price...
...And were kind of ok... However, for the price of €80 per person, we would have liked air conditioning, good running water and fridge in our room but what can you say? You are literally in the middle of nowhere with very few options! Breakfast and dinner were quite good.
The best thing about Twyfelfontein is that it offers excursions to see wild animals, which was very interesting as our guide (Alex Iuambo) was amazing and we got to see giraffes and elephants in their actual environment. I totally recommend it.
Twyfelfontein is of importance, hence protected by Unesco World Heritage Program. Take a tour in the rock engravings which are aged 1000-10000 years old! They depict mostly wild animals, and you can only visit them with a certified guide.
Till next time, enjoy!
