We left behind us Damaraland and the engraved stones in the red desert and headed towards the main attraction of this country: Etosha Park and the safari in the wild.
I must say I am not a real fan of this kind of sightseeing. Don’t get me wrong, I like animals, I just don’t like going to zoos or chasing them around a park to capture a picture. It is nice to do it once, take the pics and go to your next target…
Nonetheless, when you travel with company you must comply with everyone’s wishes. We visited the park twice, one time for 4-5 hours during noon and the second time for 8 hours for the entire day: we woke up quite early and spent the day in the park.
I highly recommend visiting such places either early in the morning or late at night. With a guide of course. There is not much added value to visiting such parks at midday. Animals chase waterholes early in the morning when they wake up and then lastly before they go to sleep. Especially animals of interest such as lions.
The rest, zebras, elephants, oryx, rhinos, giraffes, kudus, antelopes, gnus, birds are more easily seen throughout the day.
I must say that Etosha park must be visited once in Namibia. But that is it. Don’t stay there for many days..
Also try to avoid staying at the Eldorado Lodge. The guy who owns the place is the rudest hotel owner I have encountered! Very expensive option, bad accommodation services. No need to go into details…
Next stop: Otjiwarongo. On our way back to the capital, we spent the night at a beautiful lodge in Otjiwarongo, named Otzibamba Lodge. Magnificent lodge, surrounded by animals. The ultimate peaceful place to spend a night.
While in Otjiwarongo, we also visited a crocodile farm…not my cup of tea!
Till next time, enjoy!
