Under the sparkling motto “Journey Through Time,” the LUMAGICA light park in Frohnleiten is back, opening its dazzling gates to whisk us away into a world of pure magic. This year, they’ve really outdone themselves with a time-travel theme, starting at the Big Bang and zooming all the way into a breathtaking future.
Now, let me just say, I had high hopes. We went last year, and I took some pretty fantastic photos (if I may say so myself). But this year? Oh boy, it was freezing. I mean, I was trembling so much I probably looked like I was on one of those vibrating fitness machines. My photos? Let’s just say they’re more “abstract art” than HIVE-worthy. But hey, I’ll do my best to paint the picture for you...just imagine it without the blur!
A little about Frohnleiten
Frohnleiten is a cute little town in Austria, right by the Mur River. It’s got picture-perfect views, rolling hills, and a peaceful vibe. The Murhof Golf Club, where Lumagica happens, is the ideal spot for this light show. It’s big, open, and surrounded by nature, a perfect mix for a magical evening. Ok, I really must visit this town in the daytime, to show you how it looks.
The journey through time
The adventure kicks off with a bang—literally. You start at the Big Bang, the origin of everything, and then wander through history. Prehistoric creatures light up the night, and yes, dinosaurs are involved (because what’s a journey through time without them?). From there, you move into the wonders of the present day before taking a peek at a glowing vision of the future.
This park isn’t just about watching...it’s about doing! There are spots where you can interact with the lights and even control them. You’ll feel like a magician, making the light dance around you. The water and light shows are something else, too. Lasers, sounds, and colorful lights all work together to take you under the ocean or to faraway lands.
And oh, the light sculptures! Over 300 glowing figures are spread out along the paths. These magical shapes—big and small—make the park feel like a fairytale come to life.
This year’s theme, with its journey through time, was super cool, but since my hands were shaking like crazy, I couldn’t do it justice with my photos. So, I’ll also share some of last year’s pictures. Last year’s theme was animals, and let me tell you, it was just as magical, if not more. Giant glowing creatures lit up the park, and it felt like stepping into a safari of light.
