Finally, the moment arrived to see my girls again, and oh, was I pumped! We headed to visit our friend who lives near Koper, in the Slovenian sea area. We do this girls' weekend every year, and each time it's a blast! This time, it was at Miša's place, and let me tell you, it's beyond awesome! I had totally forgotten how stunning the Slovenian sea is. Can't even remember the last time I was here!
So, we packed up our stuff and hit the road!
Sanja took the wheel, picking me up from Šentilj first, then we swung by Ljubljana to grab Luana, and even Miša's dog, who was vacationing with a friend. Next stop: Primorska! We were all buzzing with excitement to reunite. Our friendship spans over 25 years, and though it's tough to meet up regularly with everyone scattered around when we're together, it's like we're back in elementary school. We're still the same crazy bunch who used to pull off wild stunts, making my childhood and teenage years unforgettable. They were my escape from home, always encouraging laughter and adventure.
The journey took about 3 hours in total. Slovenia may be small, but it's packed with wonders. As we traveled, the song about crossing Slovenia (Z Goričkega v Piran) played in my head. From plains to rivers, mountains, and finally, the sea. Our country truly has it all, at least in terms of landscapes.
When we finally reached the sea, we were bursting with impatience to see each other.
Miša was already waiting, and it was hugs, laughter, and non-stop chatter. Her boyfriend joked about her energy, but he was in for a wild ride with three more of us around!
We were greeted by a feast of traditional seaside delights that she had prepared, including a veggie pie with the symbol six on it, representing our group, the six, though sadly, we're down to five now. But that doesn't matter, we're still going strong. Another friend would join us the next day, as she was vacationing with family nearby. I haven't talked this much in ages! We barely left the table for two hours, catching up on everything. But Miša had reserved a table for us at a sushi joint in Trieste, Italy, so off we went.
Trieste, just a hop away from the Slovenian coast, greeted us with the tantalizing aroma of coffee from the illy factory. It was heavenly! If I could, I'd move next door just to wake up to that smell every day. And being a coffee fanatic, they took me to a shop with prices lower than what I'm used to. Besides Lego stores, this place is my new favorite spot!
After a quick exploration of Trieste, we hit up a sushi restaurant and ordered everything in sight. Hey, when it's all you can eat, why hold back? Ordering was a challenge with the Italian menu and language barrier, and I can say with certainty that 4 years of Italian language in high school did not bear fruit.
But hey, at least I still remember how to ask where the toilet is!
We didn't expect so much food on the table, but we were determined to eat it all. Sadly, we couldn't finish it because there was just too much. Surprisingly, the bill wasn't expensive at all, which was a pleasant surprise. I'd probably pay more for such a meal back in Austria. So, it was definitely worth it because the food was delicious.
After that, we took a short stroll along the coast of Trieste. Our next plan was to go to a nearby club for a concert, but it got canceled last minute. To be honest, we were kind of relieved because we were already so tired that none of us felt like dancing. We blamed it on eating too much, but later on, we admitted that we were just getting a bit old and preferred a cozy evening at home with wine and long chats.
We wrapped up the night around 1:30 in the morning, all of us exhausted and ready to hit the hay. The next day, we had some exciting adventures ahead of us.
