Hi Everyone,
First thing when we said we were going to Sapporo, our kids asked if we were going to visit the Sapporo TV tower. This is because our kids play called Persona and there are scenes based in Japan so they are very keen to visit many of them as much as possible. Sapporo TV Tower, the iconic structure in Sapporo can be found at Odori Park. Not only it has appeared in games, but it also appeared in movies like Godzilla. We decided to take the kids up the tower to see the view of Sapporo as it is the highest point to see the city.
We took the lift to the ticket office from the ground floor and there you could go up the observation tower. As there weren’t too many visitors during that time, we didn’t have to wait at all to go up. As BB M was under 6, he can go up for free. We took the next lift up and arrived at the observation deck which is all covered. Here you could see the various views of Sapporo City, Mount Moiwa, and most importantly, the stretch of Odori Park which I love. I’ve only been to Sapporo during winter and never seen flowers blooming in the park so I hope next time when I am in Sapporo, we will go in summer.
Depending on your preference, you can go up the tower day or night. We prefer the day as the night gets really cold in winter and the kids can see much more. At night, it's more for night lights once the city lights up and we think the kids won’t appreciate it as much. As you walk around the tower, there are some sides actually slant forward so you feel like you are leaning out. I did try it and it does get scary if you look down. If you are scared of heights like me, just make sure to hold onto the sidebars.
There is also a little shrine with the TV tower mascot on both sides. Cute and people would pray for good luck there. After a loop, we finished checking out the big souvenir shop downstairs. I highly recommend going through the store carefully as there are so many goodies and gems there, lots to buy for friends and family back home. In particular, lots of anime goods and local products/sweets so don’t miss out on that. The whole visit took around 90 minutes and it’s close to Nijo market which could be a nice stop/destination. Do check out the tower by night as it lights up each night even though you aren’t going up, it is still nice to see the tower during the evening.

It must be very interesting to visit such a place that you have seen on TV or in movies. The pictures look very nice, I imagine the view from the height must be wonderful.
Wow! What an amazing view from the tower!
The development is fantastic, compared to the old pictures posted.
One of the destinations that I want to visit is Japan. And this tower is also an apple to my eye. Maybe soon, I could finally travel here.
this place on Japan is beautiful, I always read all the ones you publish
It looks like the Eiffel tower hehe.
The scenery of the city is really beautifully depicted
I think I'm going to need to add Sapporo as one of my bucket list destinations. Thanks for sharing such awesome photos!
Nice pictures. I am really looking forward to coming to visit Japan. Not sure that a TV tower would be my priority place, but it's nice seeing around.
Best luck for your travelling!
