Hi Everyone,
Osaka has a famous fish market called Kuromon Market (黒門市場) which is around 10 minutes walk from Namba station. We were living very close to Kuromon Market over the Christmas & New Year period so we decided to check it out after our breakfast. We could see lots of tourists here lining up for sashimi, skewers and various cooked seafood. I would say that I haven’t seen that many tourists for some time.
By looking at this undercover market, goes on for a few blocks. Other than seafood, it also sells meat, dried seafood, seaweed and various gifts for people to take home. Though looking at those prices at each store, it seems like it was more expensive than what you would normally get at the supermarket. I guess it was the holiday season as well as many visitors, the stores can afford to raise the prices a little to cover the costs of the high rent in the area.
We even saw a store cutting open a fresh tuna, yummy toro selling at that store. I do have to say, the fish was very fresh but the prices were not cheap. Lots of sea urchins, and crabs around the streets and lines of tourists waiting to get a seat, or another option is to take away and eat back at the accommodation.
I like the fact many of the shopkeepers can speak another language other than Japanese to cater to tourists. We were able to communicate with simple Japanese so they were speaking to us in Japanese which was a nice way to practice the language. Many of the signage was written in English with the pricing with over half of the stores will also have Korean and Chinese characters for their customers.
We didn’t eat anything from the market as we knew we could have similar food elsewhere so we looked through the market and continued our journey to Namba station for the rest of the days outing.

It wasn't the best seafood market we've been to in Japan but they do have fresh seafood there :)
