Hi Everyone,
One of the places to visit in Kobe has to be the Port of Kobe & Meriken Park. The port is a popular stop for cruises with Japan and is very close to the city centre. Within the port, there is Meriken Park which consists of the Earthquake Memorial Park, Maritime Museum, Kobe Port Tower, Notre Dame Kobe and some hotels. A Starbucks with a uniquely designed building is also in the middle of the port.
There is a small area near the Earthquake Memorial showing the damaged waterfront has been left after the earthquake to commemorate the people who lost their lives in the event. Although the park looks nice, this part of the park still bears the sad time this city had experienced.
There were many local people exercising at the port as it spans over a large area. The whole port was extremely big, and clean with plenty of places to enjoy the sea view. The park has a large open area where at certain times, exhibits and other activities would be set up in the middle.
With the beautiful waterfront view around the park, it is a nice place to enjoy after lunch or dinner for the night views of Kobe. It is best to walk from the station as parking can be a bit tricky depending on the time of the day. After a nice walk, stop by at the Starbucks and enjoy a nice cup of drink looking at this beautiful view. Not to mention with the nice music in the background, such a nice relaxing day.
