Hi Everyone,

Let’s return to where we left our Japan adventure and continue. We stayed in Osaka this year for a few months living like the locals and it was surely an experience. We moved to a few areas to experience different sides of Osaka and the neighbourhood and the place we stayed the longest will be around Tengachaya. So let me take you around the neighbourhood and explore. This is out in the suburbs but not far from the main action which is very important to us during our travel adventures. We don’t want to stay in the city where all the tourists are but close enough we don’t feel it’s too far.

Tengachaya is a neighbourhood that blends history, culture, and local charm. Tengachaya was once a key stop on the old Kishu Kaido, a historic route connecting Osaka to Wakayama which we plan to go either next month or early January. There is still lots of old history around the suburb with Edo-period charm in quiet backstreets and the occasional traditional building when you walk towards the metro. Tengachaya is easily accessed via the Nankai and Sakaisuji lines, making it a great base for exploring Osaka. The Nankai Line provides a direct route to Kansai International Airport, while the Sakaisuji Line connects you to the busy part of Osaka. Note that not all the trains will stop at this station but it comes frequently enough in our opinion.

Around Tengachaya, there are many small shrines in small lanes or between houses. It has a traditional shopping arcade but is not very popular and is better suited for the older generation locals. There are many small shops and a fairly large supermarket around the station which makes cooking and picking up a snack very convenient when you get off the train.

Tengachaya is also popular with Airbnb accommodation due to the large density of houses and apartments. However, some people believe Tengachaya is on the poorer side of Osaka and may feel unsafe, but for us, we didn’t feel that one bit. If you are in Osaka for more than two weeks and want to stay around local Japanese people, this is a nice little suburb to look out for, considering it has a great metro system that connects you directly to the airport.

Never been there, however when I lived in Osaka, I remember riding the train and noticing that station stop!

Yes very suburban but a convenient stop with so the metro and airport line :)

It looks like the housing in the early area is very nice, my friend.

Yes more out in the suburbs, much more like some parts of Japan
