Hi Everyone,
As we arrived at the beginning of winter, we still tried to see the ginkgo trees at Meiji the next day we landed. Unfortunately, many of the leaves have fallen with only a handful of trees having these yellow leaves. Located just a few minutes away from the trendy streets of Harajuku and Shibuya, Meiji Jingu feels like a different world. Just as you pass through Meiji Shrine, you will see the ginkgo trees 銀杏stand out amongst the normal trees around the Shrine.
Meiji Jingu, lined with towering ginkgos, has become a favourite spot for locals and visitors to take photos for keepsakes. As the golden leaves begin to fall, like when we saw them, the pathways are blanketed in yellow, and the leaves from the trees faintly smell.
After you admire the ginkgo trees, make sure to visit Meiji Jingu as it is very famous in the area. We’ve been there numerous times so we ended up getting some lunch afterwards. The best time to see these lovely trees is around November to early December and arrive early to avoid any crowds. It was very crowded when we were there as the leaves were far less than the week before but there were still many people. Seeing these ginkgo trees was a fabulous way to start our trip in Tokyo.
