Hi Everyone,
After a long day at the snow, the best thing to do in Japan is to visit the onsen to relax and soothe the aches and pains around the body. We went to Kannabe Onsen Yutorogi which is right next to our hotel after a long day on the snow. The onsen is Japanese only but it is very easy to understand if you have been to an onsen previously.
Due to the nature of the onsen, I cannot take any pictures inside but I took some of outside the baths. Baths are separated into seperate gender. We arrived late afternoon and it was super cold with snow piling up again. There are both indoor and outdoor onsets so with the snow falling, it was pretty magical.
First when we entered, we take off our shoes and leave them in these lockers. Make sure to keep your key in a safe place. The onsen offers towel rentals but we took our towels from the hotel and own products so no need to hire. Entry starts from midday or 1pm depending on the day and closes at 9pm with last entry at 8.30pm.
Kids are 500 yen and adults cost 800 yen each. Note this price is only for the bath, no more other services like massage chairs or towel rentals. The onsen was pretty empty when we arrived as it was a weekday, not many people on the snowfield. I pretty much got the outdoor onsen to myself. I don’t like to stay indoors as it does get very hot so the outdoor one is perfect, in particular with the snow falling down heavily. Be sure to take a shower and wash your hair (or tie it up if you prefer not to wash your hair) before going into the onsen.
After 45 minutes or so, I was out and the boys were already waiting for me at the resting area watching TV. We decided to head to a restaurant we found online for dinner. As we were walking out, I saw some shallots on sale which was grown by local farmers. It looked so fresh! I grow them at home so it was nice to see homegrown veggies sold. Such a nice way to finish off a tiring day on the snow.
