Jardine River and Cape York Australia (part 3)

in Worldmappin2 years ago

Cruising across the Jardine Ferry! Woohoo! Once you get to the Jardine River ferry crossing you feel like your on the home run to the most northern tip of Australia! The ferry costs a small fortune of $175... But it's worth it if you don't want to lose your vehicle in the river attempting to cross it on the old crossing. The guys working on the ferry were so friendly and happy smiles to greet us. Our caravan scraped on the concrete onto the ferry as the ramp onto it was quite steep, but no damage to the van on the way there.

After many days driving, seeing, visiting and exploring plenty of new places along the long dusty and very bumpy road, we finally made it to the beautiful Alau Beach camp grounds where we would stay for the rest of the month. From here over the next few weeks we did day trips to explore the most northern part of Australia.

Cyprus pool, this stunning little spot once was only known by the local people and not many tourists knew about it, however, its hard to keep any spot secret with technology these days, but this place is relatively still unknown to the tourists. It was also another favourite place for out kids. We spent many days here swimming. An amazing bonus of visiting this remote part of Australia was that we had our own private tour guides, it's a long way to go to visit our family but it was so worth it and we miss them all so much already.

Jardine River swims! Yes there are massive crocodiles everywhere up in the north of Australia, the Jardine River is well known for the salt water crocodiles, however, the local aboriginal people of Cape York let us know where a few safer swimming places along the river are, these places are shallow enough with large enough sand banks where swimming is OK, it's still wise to have someone on watch to look out for the giant lizards, but unlikely that they would live in the shallow waters.

Loyalty Beach is another camping ground, we enjoyed a lovely evening meal and drinks at their bar on the beach. The sunset was stunning and we even had a light sprinkle of rain which added to the perfect atmosphere.
