Hey guys! Today I would like to tell you about my trip to Croatia, from which I have just returned home. I chose the small coastal town of Selce in the Kvarner bay as the destination for this beach holiday with my family. You can find out what makes this place so special for me in this post.
Hallo Leute! Heute möchte ich euch von meiner Reise nach Kroatien erzählen, von der ich soeben nachhause gekommen bin. Ich entschied mich für die kleine Küstenstadt Selce in der Kvarner Bucht als Destination für diesen Strandurlaub mit meiner Familie. Was diesen Ort für mich so besonders macht, erfahrt ihr in diesem Beitrag.
Selce has only 2,500 inhabitants and is not one of the better known holiday resorts on the Croatian coast. So why did I choose this small fishing village of all places? The main reason is one of the most beautiful beaches in Croatia. White sand, turquoise blue, crystal clear water and its location right in the centre make the beach called Poli Mora one of my absolute favorite beaches in general.
Selce hat nur 2.500 Einwohner und gehört nicht zu den bekannteren Urlaubsorten an der kroatischen Küste. Wieso habe ich mich also ausgerechnet für dieses kleine Fischerdorf entschieden. Der Hauptgrund ist einer der schönsten Strände Kroatiens. Weißer Sand, türkisblaues, glasklares Wasser und seine Lage direkt am Zentrum machen den Strand namens Poli Mora zu einem meiner absoluten Lieblingsstrände überhaupt.
I discovered Selce during a day trip two years ago. At that time I was on vacation in the much better-known town of Crikvenica, whose beaches I was less excited about. Back then, in 2020, I still thought Selce was an insider tip, but the low number of visitors was probably more due to the pandemic. During my visit in 2022, Selce was unfortunately almost overcrowded. It was sometimes difficult to get a place on the beach or a seat in a restaurant at lunchtime.
Ich entdeckte Selce im Rahmen eines Tagesausfluges vor zwei Jahren. Damals machte ich im wesentlich bekannteren Ort Crikvenica Urlaub, dessen Strände mich weniger begeisterten. Zu dieser Zeit, im Jahr 2020, dachte ich noch, Selce wäre ein Geheimtipp. Die geringe Besucherzahl lag aber wohl eher an der Pandemie. Während meines Besuchs 2022 war Selce leider fast schon überlaufen. Einen Platz am Strand oder zur Mittagszeit im Restaurant zu ergattern, gestaltete sich teilweise schwierig.
If you're looking for peace and quiet, you're in the wrong place in Selce, at least in high season. But on the other hand, there is no shortage of entertainment. In addition to many restaurants and shops, you can find markets, street artists, water sports and in the evenings, live bands often create a cheerful, lively holiday atmosphere on the small main square of the village. Only clubs and discos are not to be found. Selce is definitely not a party destination.
Wer Ruhe sucht, ist also mittlerweile in Selce falsch, zumindest in der Hochsaison. Dafür mangelt es nicht an Unterhaltung. Neben vielen Restaurants und Shops, findet man Märkte, Straßenkünstler, Wassersport-Angebote und abends sorgen immer wieder Live Bands für eine fröhliche, ausgelassene Urlaubsstimmung auf dem kleinen Hauptplatz des Örtchens. Nur Clubs und Diskotheken sucht man vergeblich. Selce ist definitiv keine Party-Destination.
While I would have liked to see a little less clouds during the day, they provided spectacular sunsets almost every evening. You can almost watch the sun sink into the sea in Selce. Only the island of Krk on the opposite side prevents a view of the sea as far as the horizon. However, this does not affect the wonderful evening atmosphere in any way.
Während ich mir etwas weniger Wolken tagsüber gewünscht hätte, sorgten diese fast jeden Abend aufs neue für spektakuläre Sonnenuntergänge. Man kann der Sonne in Selce fast dabei zusehen, wie sie im Meer versinkt. Nur die gegenüberliegende Insel Krk verhindert einen Meerblick bis zum Horizont. Dies beeinträchtigt die wundervolle Abendstimmung jedoch in keinster Weise.
As expected, I really enjoyed my week in Selce. If you are looking for a small, cosy coastal town with a dream beach in the Kvarner Bay, this is the place for you. The only thing that surprised me was the number of tourists. Unfortunately, Selce is no longer an insider tip. But maybe you can take advantage of a few late summer days in September if you are looking for a less bustling atmosphere. If I hadn't booked my next trip for the week after the next, I would definitely consider returning for a few more days.
Wie erwartet, hat mir meine Woche in Selce sehr gut gefallen. Wenn ihr einen kleinen, gemütlichen Küstenort mit einem Traumstrand in der Kvarner Bucht sucht, seid ihr hier genau richtig. Überrascht hat mich nur die Anzahl der Touristen. Ein Geheimtipp ist Selce leider nicht mehr. Vielleicht könnt ihr aber eine paar spätsommerliche Tage im September nutzen, wenn ihr eine weniger quirlige Atmosphäre sucht. Hätte ich nicht die nächste Reise für übernächste Woche gebucht, würde ich es mir definitiv überlegen, für ein paar weitere Tage zurückzukehren.

Croatia is near the top of my bucket list! That beach looks amazing but man, its super super crowded. Great photos and the place seems charming.

I too have visited the seaside resorts in Croatia, I can say that most of them are amazing, the place you shared with us is amazing, the turquoise color of the water, the happy people that is the recipe for a peaceful life.
