Basilica Santa Maria in Aracoeli, Rome

Hello travelers

I don't know why almost every time I come up with a blog topic my thoughts run to Rome(Italy), this amazing city has left its mark on me and here in today's blog I'm back somewhere in late January 2024 to share with you another amazing place in Rome.

I have written many times through my blogs that I have shared with you here in Rome that walking on the streets here you always have something to photograph, you actually have at your disposal an open-air museum, you just have to be ready to immortalize unforgettable moments.

Our mobility partner through Rome was the bus, hehe, the perfect means of public transportation for those who want an authentic experience when you want to visit different places, it was very easy to use the taxi, but honestly from the taxi you don't have the same adventure as when you use the bus.

Why I wrote this above, here's why, I was sitting in the bus with my eyes on the window, the images were changing every second until I noticed some very interesting ruins, being a rush hour the bus was slow so I quickly searched on the internet what those ruins represent.

Surprise, I was passing by the first place made especially for the horse races here in Rome, the place is huge, it looks like it could host over a quarter of a million people at the same time, and yes, it is the Circus Maximus, I immediately noted it on my list of future sights to visit in our next visit to Rome.

The bus dropped us off not very far from where we planned to go, Basilica Santa Maria, you should know that if you use the bus, this means of public transportation must be combined with walking, the bus doesn't drop you off at the entrance of the sights you will visit, but stay, this makes the experience much more enjoyable.

Apart from the fact that the area was very crowded, in this area I noticed a lot of police cars, I didn't even know how to feel, safe or in danger, but in the end it was all very clear, all those crews were there to keep people safe.

When we arrived in front of the Basilica Santa Maria, we were surprised when we saw how many stairs we had to climb to get to the entrance of the Basilica Santa Maria, so we decided to take a break at the bottom of the stairs to rest a bit.

As we were standing at the bottom of the stairs and hydrating, we noticed something very interesting near the stairs leading to the entrance of the basilica, some very interesting ruins, more I noticed some pictures that despite the weather or preserved very well.

Okay, we've rested enough, so let's climb all these stairs and explore the inside of the basilica, honestly as I saw the outside (which didn't impress me very much) I didn't know what expectations to have when I see the inside.

Everything changes exactly from entering the basilica, nothing prepared us for what we were about to see, Basilica Santa Maria is stunning, its interior left me speechless, I must tell you that access inside is free, but visiting hours may differ depending on the time of year (check their website beforehand, but it's generally open between 9-18).

How much I miss Rome. I would like to go back to visit it but in this period that there is the Jubilee it is really not recommended.

Rome, is one of my favorite cities, even though it is extremely crowded, everything is very crowded, when we visited Rome we chose most of the days to be during the week so as not to catch a full weekend, look, even so it was very demanding our visit through Rome.
Thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful weekend.
