The fairytale story I discovered on Muntele Mic( The Small Mountain)in Caras-Severin county, Romania

Hello travelers from around the world

2024 just flew by, honestly I've been so caught up in everyday life that I can't believe it's come to an end, so now at the end of the year I was wishing that I could go somewhere I've been dreaming about for a while.

I don't know if this will be the last post this year or I will upload another one, I will think about it again, this year I chose to spend the end of the year with my family without too much fuss.

On the weekend just ended I decided to take a walk with my family in Caras-Severin county and climb up the Muntele Mic(The Small Mountain), longing to see the snow, breathe the fresh mountain air, make a snowman, watch the skiers dancing on the slopes and just laze in the sun.

A couple of days before, I checked to see how the road conditions are because I was planning to go up to the maximum point where it was possible to reach by car.

The distance we had to cover by car was about 210 km and it took me almost three hours, even if we covered 100 km on the highway, it still took us forever to get there, but wait, about 15 km was all winding and steep roads, where the maximum speed was 30 km/h.

I don't know who else to believe!

In the morning before leaving for the road we checked the weather forecast, here we saw that on the mountain the temperature during the day will be up to -9 degrees, so we were properly equipped, we didn't know what to expect when we get there, stay with me until the end to discover for yourself what was the reality.

On the spot the road up to the mountain seems to be clean and practicable, quite a lot of cars on the way up.

When we started the climb the temperature was somewhere on the border of freezing, even though it was around noon I had the feeling that it was getting dark, a thick blanket of fog had taken hold over the whole mountain, I had not seen snow yet, it was a relaxing silence, in the background you could hear the river flowing on the side of the road.

But the surprise came as we climbed higher, the blanket of fog left behind and gave way to the sun's rays, we could already see the joy of being there on our faces, and the temperature rose to 3 degrees.

When we were about 2 km to the parking lot of the main ski slope, surprise surprise, a policeman stopped us because the road was blocked by cars, there were so many cars that the police were struggling to somehow restore traffic on that stretch of road.

With difficulty we found a parking space on the side of the road without having to turn somewhere further down to another parking lot (which was also full), we parked so with the consent of the police officers.

Ready to go to the snow!!!!

After a walk in the fresh mountain air we arrived at the base of the chairlift, aww, it felt like all of Romania was here at this moment, and yes, the place was very crowded.

But we're lucky, we don't have to queue for the ski lifts because we don't do winter sports, so we have plenty of time for a sunbath and a walk in the snow.

The point where we climbed here on the mountain is about 1500 meters high and the maximum point where you can take the chairlift is about 1800 meters.

I noticed that every person who comes here has something to do including children, there are several winter equipment rental centers, there are ski instructors and there are also a few places where you can have a bite to eat or a mulled wine.

Another interesting activity is HeliSki, that is helicopter rides over snowy mountains, but also over the ski slopes, this really seemed fantastic but also expensive (if I'm not mistaken a lap was about 400 euro).

That's a lot of people that went there to the snow, I am not surprised there had to be police. I know when it snows here in the mountains, sometimes the police blocks the roads as here people don't have proper winter tires.

(if I'm not mistaken a lap was about 400 euro).

A bit expensive fun hahaha 😆

To come to this area by car you have to have winter tires or put your life in danger, when we got there there must have been thousands of cars in parking lots and on the side of the road to the ski slopes.

This was the reason why the police restricted the access to that area, only cars coming down from the mountain were allowed, going up the mountain was forbidden.

Even if a helicopter ride was so expensive, there were people waiting for their turn, for me it is a total enigma, all day long I hear on TV that Romanians have no money and that poverty is taking over the country, but when I look in the parking lots of the big stores and here on the mountain tops and I see Romanians spending their money in such a way, I don't know who to believe.

Have a wonderful week ahead.
