The God Hercules and the Image of Decebalus, the last King of Dacia πŸ‡·πŸ‡΄ Romania

in Worldmappin β€’ 3 years ago

Hello everyone,

Today I want to present you the place where I have been at least 4 times in a few years, a place of rare beauty that is visited by many tourists.

For a start, we will go together through Baile Herculane City in Romania which is located in the city with the same name, being the oldest spa resort in Romania.

I will show you a historical monument that represents Hercules. The bronze statue depicts the god Hercules wearing on his left shoulder the skin of the lion of Nemea and a mace, this statue becoming the symbol of the city.

As you may know already, Hercules was the son of Zeus and Elena and he was recorded in mythology as representing the balance between physical and spiritual strength.

This photography below is made in the center of the Baile Herculane City.

Leaving behind the statue of Hercules, we're going further about 25 km on the Danube bank in Orsova town, Mehedinti county, where the Danube River offers spectacular images.

Being captivated by the beauty of the landscape , I realized that time passes very quickly and I still have one amazing place to visit …

We were driving the car when we arrived between the localities of Eselnita and Dubova, where a panorama opened that represents the highest stone sculpture in Europe: The face of Decebalus, an art work made of stone on the rocky bank of the Danube, framed in a dream landscape with a height of 55m.

Under the face of Decebalus is engraved the Latin inscription " DECEBALOS REX " (King Decebalus).
In the present, the statue is only 60% completed because the man who financed this amazing art work died in 2008 and it remains unfinished to this day.

There are plenty of boats that can be rented. They differ in size, you have so many choices. The services are great, they are not expensive and the tour can last from half an hour to four hours, depending what you have in mind.

We took one small bout, for six people and we went for half an hour on the Danube.

This is the mysterious cave of Veterans, you can reach this place just from the boat.

Thank you for reading,
If you have any thoughts about these places, you can leave a comment! I would gladly response to that!
