University of Ghent an important university centre in Belgium
Hello dear followers and visitors
Have you ever visited Belgium?
We went this spring to a few cities in Belgium where we had some great experiences, although initially we had made plans to visit more cities but for medical reasons we didn't manage to do that, maybe next time.
Yes, almost the whole holiday in Belgium I had a temperature, I was sick, I didn't sleep much, don't worry I didn't have covid.
Although I could barely keep my feet on the ground, I didn't stay in my hotel room, but set off to explore Ghent, which at first glance seemed like an organized city with amazing architecture and welcoming people.
Ghent is only 50 km from the capital, Brussels, the distances between the cities I travelled mostly by train, rail transport is well set up, but instead I found the tickets a bit expensive, but let's not forget that we are in a European country, about this I will write in another post in which I will also talk about the accommodations we had here.
Ghent is well known for its culture, architecture and especially for its university centre with tens of thousands of students.
Exploring in detail this city with its vibrant streets and that great architecture we discovered the University of Ghent, clearly we decided to see if we could visit it, however it is a university center not a tourist attraction.
The first time I entered the courtyard of the University, my goodness, how colourful, how beautifully landscaped, well kept, I really like this place, but let's go in.
After the first steps inside the University we met several students who on a table in front of them had some kind of questionnaires, we politely asked them if we could visit the inside of this University.
The students were very happy to see that we were interested in visiting the university, they gave us all the information we needed, what we could visit, not all the university premises were open to the public.
On the day we visited, there was an open day, meaning that anyone who wanted to visit the university could do so for free.
Earlier I wrote that I saw those questionnaires on the students' table, but they were for those who wanted to fill them in and those who filled them in could deposit them in one of the University halls where they received a ticket, and with that ticket you could buy a free coffee, cappuccino, a drink (alcoholic), I will detail this a little later.
The first room I visited was the library, with slow steps I tried to pass through the shelves of books without disturbing anyone, here everything seemed to grow in time, everything was arranged perfectly, everything was shining, yes what can I say I was speechless, I didn't stay too long here to let others enjoy the beauty of the library.
I was wondering if from the beginning this place amazed us so much, what surprises are waiting for us later.
We follow the signs and reach a room where paintings were exhibited, we shyly look at those paintings and then take a look out of the window towards the University courtyard.
We continue our exploration of the lecture halls and suddenly we arrive in a very large hall, here there was a great commotion, it seemed to me a kind of banquet everyone had a drink in hand, groups had already formed socializing and others were sitting on lazybags.
A gentleman at the entrance asked us if we had filled out that questionnaire we received at the entrance, clearly we had already filled it out (where we thought we knew the answers) we received some tickets and a little further on we were greeted by a bartender who asked us what we wanted to serve.
We settled for a cappuccino and coffee, which we were very happy with at the time.
Also in this room we were able to take pictures of ourselves wearing hats from different cultures of the world, the pictures were taken by a camera and we received them on the spot, free of charge.
In this room after more than two hours our visit here at the University comes to an end, not before leaving a memory to the University that some tourists from Romania were once here.
If you liked what you saw and read here please don't forget to give a LiKe, Follow, reBlog or a Comment, for all this I thank you, and until the next post I say goodbye.
P.S. The attached pictures you have just seen are taken by me with my mobile phone, and the text is also designed by me.

I studied in Belgium for one year! 🙂 But I was at KU Leuven..
University buildings in Belgium are fascinating. It's like visiting museums. It's cool that you were able to visit too.
Ghent is a very beautiful city and I hope that you have enjoyed it.
What kind of frietjes did you try while in Belgium? They are everywhere, so I guess that you tried some 🙂
Have a lovely day! 😘
Indeed, the University of Ghent was spectacular, both architecturally and in terms of the feelings I experienced there, when I visited the University it was a kind of "Open Doors", I think.
It gave me a nice vibe.
I could experience the feeling of being a student in Belgium for a few tens of minutes🙂
I'm a foodie, I've tried quite a few dishes that have French fries as the main ingredient.
Hugs from Romania!
Hello!
It looks more like a princely home than a university.
It is a beautiful building, as well as elegant.
I liked the fact that the old parts are preserved with those arches on top of the roof.
The library is the best, and what I liked the most are the old books that they keep.
Thank you for sharing
I too was impressed by this university, and yes, it has its peculiarities, amazing architecture (as you noted), the library is sensational, overall it was a beautiful experience.
