On an occasion of visting my grandmother in Binh Dinh province. I have had a chance to wander and exlore around this area.
My grandmother is over eighty years old, somehow she looks still tough and health than me ^^. Coming back the countryside in the summer cannot give me the best moment because the heat of Binh Dinh can kill somebody in an instant shot.
Located in the south-central of Viet Nam, Binh Dinh is known as the mother land of coconut and typical food made from the people here. Binh Dinh is also famous for the beautiful coast and nature. My grandmother’s house is far from the beach over 30km, it takes me about 30 mins to go to the beach by the way, but I am not a fan of beach, I have no reason to get there. I would rather spend time staying home, cutting the coconut and watching the yellow rice field around.
My grandmother stoped growing rice when she was over 70 because of the age, her relatives did not allow her to work anymore, all she needs to do is about staying home, taking care the trees and take a rest.
All day long, my grandmother tries to find something to do to kill her free time, she always wakes up at 2 a.m and gets back to sleep till 5 am. She goes to the market by herself in every morning and work with industry and cleverness to cook the food for whole day.
You know, the generation gap is always a difficulity for among of us to communicate and share the thought. I and my grandmother get the same situation. She always asks me when I will get married or why I do not have a stable job or build a stable life as my siblings did. I know that she is worry about me, but worrying one thing a lot cannot give one happy or peaceful feeling.
Instead of making the argument or depressing what I was feeling, I try to chase red herring by ask the permission to cut the coconut down and drink it haha. My grandmother grows a line of coconuts tree and all of them are bearing the fruits and be already to harvest. The coconut water tastes fresh and delicious, that would be the very good choice for the fucking summer like this.
Lying in the hammock then drinking coconut and gulping in air are what I am doing these days in the grandmother’s home. This hammock is just like her special stuff that cannot leave her in any momment, she usually lays in the hammock after finishing the daily movements and works. She said in the summer few years ago, she often laid down to sleep over the middle night because the weather was too hot to sleep in the room.
Well, most of the countryside in Vietnam nowadays are urbanized, there are only the poor area in the countryside still remain the speciality and the simple beauty that we cannot find out in the urban area. For example: beside growing rice field as the main work, they also maintain the shrimp farm by the traditional way. Shrimp is not my favourite food by the way ^^. So I have not eaten any shirmp whenever I come back the countryside even though my mom, my sisters and my grandmother invite it to me so many time.
I believe that in each our soul, there will be at least one part of countryside in which we would love to settle down after retiring or boring with the modern life. What it would be? Can we share with each other about it?
Much appreciated for your visiting my blog today!
