La Puerta is a town located about 20 minutes from the city of Valera in the Trujillo state of Venezuela, which for many years has been a favorite place for tourists who love the cold weather.
The temperature in this beautiful town ranges between 16 and 20 degrees Celsius since it is located at an altitude of 1,758 meters above sea level. This makes it a place with a very pleasant climate for rest and recreation.
In the center of the town is the church and in front of it is the Bolivar square. In every town in Venezuela, there is a square named after Simon Bolivar, our liberator.
La puerta es un pueblo ubicado a unos 20 minutos de la ciudad de Valera en el estado Trujillo de Venezuela, que por muchos años ha sido el sitio preferido de los turistas que aman el clima frío.
La temperatura en este bello pueblo oscila entre los 16 y los 20 grados centígrados, ya que se encuentra ubicado a una altitud de 1.758 metros sobre el nivel del mar. Esto lo convierte en un sitio con un clima muy agradable para el descanso y el esparcimiento.
En el centro del pueblo está la iglesia y frente a ella la plaza Bolivar. En todos los pueblos de Venezuela hay una plaza que lleva el nombre de Simón Bolvar, nuestro libertador.

When I go there, I like to sit on the benches of this square to enjoy the weather, the imposing mountain scenery that rises right next to the village, and the calm and relaxing atmosphere that reigns around me. Time seems to pass more slowly there, away from the noise and stress of the city.
Cuando voy, me gusta sentarme en las bancas de esta plaza a disfrutar del clima, del imponente paisaje de montaña que se levanta justo al lado del pueblo y del ambiente tranquilo y relajante que reina a mí alrededor. Allí parece que el tiempo pasa más lento, lejos del ruido y el estrés de la cuidad.

Around the square is located the largest commercial activity of the town, formed by stores selling handicrafts, wooden figures, ceramics, rag dolls, clothes for the cold, and wool blankets among other items. In addition, there are restaurants, coffee shops, ice cream parlors, and sales of sweets typical of the region.
A few blocks up from the Bolivar square is located an ice cream shop that I always like to go to because they sell delicious strawberry and cream ice cream and because the place is decorated with old bottles and objects that were used many years ago and that the owner still keeps and exhibits in the shop.
Alrededor de la plaza se encuentra ubicada la mayor actividad comercial del pueblo, formada por tiendas que venden artesanías, figuras de madera, cerámicas, muñecas de trapo, ropa para el frío y cobijas de lana entre otros artículos. Además, hay restaurantes, tiendas de cafés, heladerías y ventas de dulces típicos de la región.
Unas cuadras más arriba de la plaza Bolivar esta ubicada una heladería a la que siempre me gusta ir porque venden helados muy deliciosos de fresas con cremas y porque el lugar esta decorado con botellas y objetos viejos que se usaron hace muchos años y que el dueño aun conserva y exhibe en el local.

Diagonal to this ice cream parlor is the only shopping center of this town. It is called Valle Verde and was built at the beginning of the year 2000. Walking through its short corridors you can see clothing stores, video games, costume jewelry, and in the center is the fast-food area where we enjoyed a delicious snack.
In the gardens of the shopping center, there are iron figures of peasants working the land, a symbol of agriculture, another important economic activity in the area.
Diagonal a esta heladería se encuentra el único centro comercial que tiene el pueblo. Se llama Valle Verde y fue construido al inicio del año 2000. Al caminar por sus cortos pasillos se ven los locales de ropa, video juegos, bisutería y en el centro se encuentra el área de comida rápida donde disfrutamos de una rica merienda.
En los jardines del centro comercial se encuentran unas figuras forjadas en hierro de unos campesinos labrando la tierra, son un símbolo de la agricultura, otra actividad económica importante de la zona.

On one side of the square, there is a path that leads to a river of icy and crystalline water that crosses the entire town. To get there we had to walk down a steep road for a few minutes. There the children bathed despite the cold weather and we had a great time, enjoying the view, the weather, and the pleasant sound of the water passing by.
A un lado de la plaza hay un camino que conduce a un río de agua helada y cristalina que atraviesa todo el pueblo. Para llegar allí tuvimos que caminar por un camino empinado durante unos minutos. Allí los niños se bañaron a pesar del frío y nos lo pasamos muy bien, disfrutando de la vista, el clima y el agradable sonido del agua al pasar.

Finally, we visited a very busy place fifteen minutes away from the gate called La Lagunita, which owes its name to a lagoon where tourists can take a boat ride and observe the colorful fish that live in it. There we rented some horses to ride around and had a great time!
Finalmente, visitamos un lugar muy concurrido que queda a quince minutos de la puerta llamado la Lagunita, el cual debe su nombre a una laguna que hay en él en donde los turistas pueden pasear en botes y observar los peces de colores que viven en ella. Allí alquilamos unos caballos para pasear por los alrededores lo pasamos muy bien.

I enjoy it very much when I make known the beautiful places of my beloved Venezuela. The Venezuelan Andes is full of beautiful towns that keep their traditions intact and are waiting for us to show us the natural beauties of our land.
