Today we are at town which is not as small as I expected and it is located between Zanskar and Suru river in the Union Territory of Ladakh.It's Kargil where the famous Kargil war between India and Pakistan was foughtin 1999 situated in region of Jammu and Kashmir. Years ago, Kargil has witnessed numerous wars between the countries. After Leh, Kargil, is second largest city in ladakh, which is also center point of trade.
The brigade shows the presence of Indian army and they always do some operations in this region. There are numerous river around Kargil, which plan important rolls Such as supporting agriculture of the area and local economy.
One of the most important river around Kargil is Susu river as well as Zanskar, and they eventually merge into the Indus river. As the climate and the mountain conditions of the kargil are harsh and dry so it's support Only limited crops and most of them includes barley, waeat and also potatoes. People of kargil also practice livestock farming For livelihood as well as for milk production.
As soon as we enter the area , we saw a huge trees welcoming us to this small town. Being on a very high altitude, the climatic conditions of the this area keeps changing , making it difficult for people to live.
The area around is covered with huge snow capped mountains which provides majestic view. It was around 5 in the evening and light was hitting at the mountains making them look surreal. The elevation of this mall town is nearly two thousand six hundred seventy six meters above sea level. People of these areas are habitual to these harsh weather condition.But for people like us , it's difficult to survive there without proper guidance, for a longer period of time. Kargil is famous not only for the snow capped mountains around it ,but also for the historical and cultural significance. A very famous wall between India and Pakistan was fought here in 1999 as some part of Indian territory was infiltrated by Pakistani soldiers and militants. Cause of this, the small town has gained attention from all over the world and now it's a famous and safe place to visit. Advance trackers also plan to track the snow cap mountains around area.
The pulation of this town is around twenty five thousand and the number ,keep changing due to the seasonal migrations and due to the harsh climate conditions. Tourism is quite famous at this place Cause of the majestic beauty of the mountains and the historical significance of this area.
Different regions of people live here , which include ladakh people, tibet ends and islamic. You will spot the monasteries and mosques here sometimes simultaneously build against each other. But the people here are quite respectful to each other religions, and they also respect each others religion. This area is full of cultural and regional diversity. People also speak different languages. It's better if you travel and explore the area with the local guide.
In this picture you can see the cultivated land, they go grow vegetables such as potatoes And you traditional method of irrigation which saves lot of water. The farmers of the area also grow apples, cherries and apricots and earn lot of profit by selling them too the travellers and visitors at higher prize.
It's a ruler area , but as the place has its own historical significance cause of which the tourist get attracted towards it and now it has become a famous sport for visitors and travellers. The local market has all the facilities which includes shops and stores like grocery story store a medical store and they also have handicrafts shops. It was a great experience for me to explore such a huge town in such a remote area Where different diversity as well as religion of people are located and speak different languages. I have taken all these pictures with the help of my camera.
