I took the day off work yesterday and headed out with my mate Rick to chase some snapper for dinner in Moreton Bay.
I got up at 4am and headed to Rick's house so we could be at the Bribe island jetty and on the water by sun up.
The streets were dead and covered in fog as i drove to Rick's it was such an eerie feeling. There was not much visibility at all.
Once we got Old Balls into the water we made our way through the fog, headed to North Moreton Island. To locate a secret fishing spot a friend has told us about.
But once on the water the clouds were sitting on the water. And only had about 30 meters visibility.
We kept an eye out for tuna feeding on the surface to try our luck on the way out.
We could see a dredger as the fog cleared and they sounded their fog horn. Then came across a pod of dolphins and a green sea turtle popped up to say hello.
Once we got out to the point of North Moreton Island and into open water. The wind changed and the swell picked up. So to play it safe we headed back into the bay.
On our way we saw some hump back whales breaching out of the water so we headed closer for a look.
WOW these guys are huge!! We could see an adult whale slapping the water with its fin.
The fin was definitely bigger then our boat. So we kept our distance.
We could hear the whales talking to each other it was such an amazing moment!
Then we noticed a baby whale started to do some tail slaps.
It must have been a mother and baby playing around.
We headed back into the bay as the weather started to clear up and what a beautiful day it turned out to be!
Dropped anchor near one of the ship wrecks on north Moreton Island in hope for some snapper.
It such a different contrast in weather from this morning!
We did catch quite a few different types of but let them all go.
Fish including.
Sargent Baker
Squire (baby snapper)
Spangled Emperor
Cardinal Fish
Yellow Fin Brim
Maori Cod
Flat head
We let all these guys go to grow big and strong for next time we come out here. None of the big guys took our bait.
A Whistling kite grabbed a fish from the water right near us which was pretty cool to see.
Rick jumped in for a quick dip then we made our way back to Bribe Island.
Spotted some more dolphins on our trip back. It's crazy the amount of dolphins you see in the bay!
Hopefully the next fishing trip we have some better luck 🤞🤞 so stay tuned for more old balls adventures!
Happy travels!
Looks like you had a great day out on the water! Glad it cleared up for you 🛥🎣😊
It sure was an awesome day!! So good to see they whales 🐳🐋
Looks really scary in the morning!
You caught a shitload of different fish man!! Let's see what you cook them up into!
Haha yeah man it was pretty full on in the morning. Not much viability at all.
We let all of those fish go as they were all small and to much work to fillet them. We wanted some big snapper or tuna. Hopefully better luck next time 🤞🤞
Oh nice!! Lil catch and release!
Check out this P-rail-box I made today!
Oh wow man that is awesome! PVC is the best!
