A friend visited with her children. I wanted to take them to the pond where my daughter @emberskydragon is always catching and befriending the wildlife. In particular, she's learned a lot about the frogs and toads of the area.
She discovered that the frogs often have leeches on them, so she usually takes them off as she's doing here to this female Green Frog.
Ember is holding this male Green Frog in the way she's discovered to be the easiest way to hold them without stressing them out too much.
Here's a male Bullfrog. She knows it's a male because of the bright yellow under his chin.
This female Northern Leopard frog has an injury on her nose. Ember has found that many of the frogs have various injuries on them.
Below is an American Toad.
Enough of the animals... I wanted to share some of the flowers there as well. Here are some (possibly) ox-eye daisies.
And some red flowers - maybe cardinal flowers, but I'm not convinced.
A few nights later, we went back down to the pond to watch the fireflies and listen to the frogs. Here's a video I took. It's not a good one, but you can hear lots of frogs (and the occasional bird) and just see some of the flashes of light made by the fireflies.
