Michigan Street Bridge Lift in Sturgeon Bay - Whimsical Wisconsin

The Michigan Street Bridge in Sturgeon Bay was built in 1931. It was actually the second bridge at the time, the first being a railway bridge that is no longer present (though the point into the water still remains as a walking path.) Read more about this bridge on Wikipedia.

In 2008, it was listed on the Register of Historic Places to help assure it a future as an iconic piece of Sturgeon Bay history.

This bridge lifts on the hour and half hour if a pleasure craft is waiting. It will also lift for larger freighters on demand.

A video from STL Elevators observing the lifting of this bridge (and the unfinished maritime museum...) - the videographer here pays special attention to the "upper rolling lift bascule" which is a unique feature of this bridge. The rights and views remain with the original YouTuber.

Another shorter post as I'm suffering from a cold as I write/schedule this.

Photos taken by myself in July 2022 with my Nikon D7200.
