Oregon St Bridge Lift in Sturgeon Bay - Whimsical Wisconsin

The draw bridges in Sturgeon Bay lift quite frequently. The Michigan Street Bridge opens on the hour and half hour if pleasure boats require it (and extra if one of the big freighters needs it). In the short time we were there, I saw the Michigan Street Bridge lift about three times and the Oregon Street Bridge lift once, for sure.

This time, I got the sequence from start to finish.

The Maple-Oregon Street Bridge was built in 2008 to assist with traffic flow and to allow the aging Michigan Street Bridge to undergo urgent rehabilitation. There are a total of three bridges that go across the ship canal. The third one is the Bayview Bridge, built in 1978. It is also a draw bridge, but higher, so that only larger vessels require a lift.

That's an interesting bridge, we have a spining bridge in my city too.

Thank you for visiting!

Most modern bridges are built much higher now - especially if they have the space available... or a nearby mountain. Sturgeon Bay has neither of those two things... and already has other drawbridges, so one more didn't seem like too much a hassle, I guess.

Thanks for visiting!
