From many embassies in Indonesia, the Dutch Embassy is one of the embassies that often holds events every month. They have published bulletins that are distributed offline and online. I often have the desire to visit the Dutch Embassy because it has an aesthetic and unique library, so I took the time to stop by. How enthusiastic I was when I entered the embassy building and saw an exhibition.

The exhibition was called Indonesia And The Amsterdam School. This exhibition aims to show the relationship between Indonesia and the Netherlands which influence each other in terms of architecture and design. Let's stroll around the exhibition.

Let's get it!

Indonesia & The Amsterdam School Exhibition
Erasmus Huis, Netherland Embassy

Erasmus Huis is one of the places I have wanted to visit for a long time but have not had the time. After waiting for so long, I finally set foot in Erasmas Huis. When I arrived there I was amazed by this exhibition, Indonesia And The Amsterdam School.

As the history I learned in school, the Netherlands once colonized Indonesia for a long time, so there are many similarities between language, culture, and architecture.

This is a comic about the house of Tan Lio Tuaw, a historian and a tianghoa figure in Indonesia. This comic tells about who Lio Tuaw is and how he became an influential figure in Indonesia.

Then we move on to other works, namely interior design in the past, especially in the pre-war period, where there is a chandelier design that we often find today. It is a work of art influenced by Feng Shui of Tionghoa tribe. In addition to the lamps, there is also a cupboard with a traditional motif that is commonly used by the Chinese in Indonesia.

This section also exhibits how people in the past built modern civilization after colonization. Also displayed are black and white photos showing several people in a construction project. Interestingly, a draft layout of the buildings is also displayed.

Let's move to the other side where there are tools for batik, The Canting. There are 3 types of beautiful and a bowl made of wood where the ink for batik is placed. Even the bowl for making batik is painted to resemble batik motifs.

On the other side there is a design photo of how the stone arrangement is on each building. There is also a bamboo weave whose motif resembles the arrangement of the stones shown. From the information I read, architects in the Netherlands have adapted the arrangement of stones on their buildings from the bamboo weave to make a building stand firmly.

While in this section you can see a replica of a traditional Javanese house named Jambur. This is to show that in the Netherlands there are several buildings whose roof designs are inspired by the roofs of traditional houses in Indonesia, such as Jambur.

This exhibition aims to introduce the history of how architecture and design that we find in Indonesia originated and its relationship with the Dutch and other tribes in Indonesia. Interesting, isn't it?

Hi, Halo, Annyeong! Welcome to my galaxy.

I have so much imagination in my head. Something that I can't achieve as a human and as a girl. So writing is very challenging. Since Junior High School, I have written whatever I want to write. Without skill, I just write what I want to read. Now I have 12th published novels and all of those are romance.
Yeah, I proudly say that I am a passionate author, traveler wannabe, and blogger.
