As far as I know, Singapore is a country with Islam as a minority. Although adjacent to Malaysia which is one of the countries with the largest number of Muslims, I don't know enough about Singapore. I don't want to be racist, I just want to share my experiences and first impressions honestly. So yes, I thought it would be difficult to find a mosque in Singapore.

Sultan Mosque
The Grand Mosque in Singapore

It turns out, I was very wrong. Singapore has a large mosque in the Haji Lane area, precisely on Arab Street. It is the Sultan Mosque which has a very luxurious architectural design by combining gold, cream and gray.

The Sultan Mosque is still in the Kampung Glam area which is an area for Bugis, Javanese, and other Indonesian ethnic commodities. It can be said that the Sultan Mosque is in an area with diversity. Not only Indonesian ethnic groups, in the surrounding area also live the Indian diaspora especially the Tamil (correct me if I am wrong) and Chinese ethnic groups. Just look at the buildings in the area in front of the mosque, it looks typical of India and Malay.

This Sultan Mosque is one of the five large mosques in Singapore. It is said that Thomas Stamford Raffles has donated some of his money to help expand the mosque building so that it stands firmly as it is today. This Sultan Mosque is also one of the favorite tourist destinations in Singapore.

When I was enter the Sultan Mosque area, I saw a group of tourists who had visiting the Sultan Mosque. I was the same, wanting to see all corners of the Sultan Mosque and find out why this Mosque became so popular.

Besides, it was time for prayer, so I did it. That was my last day in Singapore. After that I would go to the bus station to get transportation to Kuala Lumpur. So, let me strolling around the Sultan Mosque.

To be honest, I entered the wrong area of the mosque. I entered the mosque where the entrance for men was located. Although they looked at me strangely, they were still friendly and answered my questions. I asked, where is the women's room? They explained it well and I didn't feel disturbed.

This is a place to clean myself specifically for men. It looks simple and clean.

Now I have entered the women's area. Unlike the women's area, this area looks busier. Many women take turns entering the toilet and ablution area.

In addition, there is an elevator in this area. Because the women's area is on the second floor, they also provide an elevator.

As a prayer room in a mosque, the room on the second floor does not have much furniture except for chairs for people who cannot stand for long, a cupboard to store mukena and prayer mats, and a mirror to fix makeup after praying. There is no air conditioner because every mosque has an open concept, which is to leave the windows and doors wide open. To make the room temperature cool, fans are installed in several corners. The fans function very well and the blades have created a gentle breeze. That makes anyone's mukena fly.

The interesting thing about the second floor is the view outside the window. It is a shopping complex where there are many souvenir sellers there. Isn't it beautiful?

While this is a special room for men. All the rooms on the first floor are special rooms for men, because usually the number of men who worship in the mosque is more than women, so the space for them is certainly bigger.

I had plenty of time before finally going back to the hostel. It was one of the most enjoyable experiences I had in Singapore. The Sultan Mosque was really interesting and beautiful. Although this country was foreign, I felt very comfortable being there for a long time. But it was a shame that I didn't have time to go around Haji Lane because I preferred to stay inside the mosque.

From all the pictures that I shared for you guys, do you agree that Sultan Mosque is beautiful as a tourist destination?

The beauty of the Sultan Agung Mosque is very beautiful, and it looks very clean, it makes me really enjoy it ❤️

The mosque is really unique. It is intriguing that it exists there. The donation is interesting.

I like its architectural design is enveloping. The colors are beautiful. The anecdote is unique, you have to live it. The looks are something that should not have happened, but they are issues of local culture.
