Transfiguration Monastery - survived for centuries and preserved to this day.

in Worldmappin3 years ago (edited)

Hello travelers again! I haven't posted anything in the group for a few days, and I finally have something to share with you. And I really can't wait. This is a favorite monastery near my hometown. I went there as a child and to this day at least once a year. I visited him today, and I admit that I read his story for the first time. It was extremely exciting to go there when I realized how many obstacles the monks had gone through to rebuild it after a complete demolition, earthquake and landslide. To this day it is preserved and inhabited only by men.

The monastery was built in 1360, during the reign of Tsar Ivan Alexander, and sources claim that it was at the request of his mother, Queen Theodora-Sarah. This happened during the Second Bulgarian Kingdom.
During the Ottoman rule, the monastery was burned down many times and subsequently demolished. 500 years later, painters are engaged in its absolute restoration.
This took about 30 years, given that repairs began approximately in 1825.

and that's not all that's happening in this holy place

Almost a century after all this, huge pieces of rock collapse. Exactly two in number, with no one injured. As the monks say that this is a real miracle because it was full of inhabitants and guests of the monastery. One rock is split in two, one part falling to the left of the monastery, the second from the right. While the second piece of rock is even bigger and falls right in the yard.273553069_504093111135330_7451063150289471041_n.jpg
this is one of the two parts of the tower split.

Years later, he experienced a landslide due to a strong earthquake. But still, all the buildings survive.

The atmosphere there is amazing. Truly a place where the silence is intoxicating. High steep cliffs and mountains in the distance also contribute to the uniqueness and charm of the monastery. Inside you can lose track of time and really do not want to go. what I heard were dancing tree leaves from the light breeze. And the air is so clean that standing under the trees and basking in the sun, you would like to sleep there. I really recommend you if you have the opportunity to see for yourself what I'm talking about. Thank you for being part of my story today and if you liked it I'll be happy to hear from you soon.
And finally, I want to say a belief about the monastery. Elderly people say that if you confess your sins by going to the gate outside, you will no longer be bound in them. You just have to believe.
