Introduction
Dear #worldmappin friends, I want to share with you a travel experience I had in Sisteron, a small French town 🇫🇷
I visited Sisteron during a business trip and could only explore the town in the evening, so the photos are taken at night.
The town is very small but fascinating.
A little story of a little city
Sisteron is a picturesque little town in Provence, situated along the banks of the Durance River and nestled between the Alps and the Mediterranean.
Often called the “Gateway to Provence,” it boasts a strategic location and unique charm.
The symbol of Sisteron is undoubtedly its the citadel perched on a rocky spur overlooking the entire landscape. Walking along its walls offers breathtaking views of the valley and surrounding mountains, especially at sunset, when the colors of the sky blend with the shades of the ancient stone.
Unfotrunally the citadel was closed because it is open from March for the good season ☀️.
We walked a bit along the external perimeter of the citadel.
The streets and the secrets of Sisteron
One of the most memorable moments during my visit to Sisteron was exploring its historic center, a maze of cobbled streets that feel suspended in time. I discovered a small bakery selling delicious calissons and honey cakes, traditional specialties of the region. Sitting at an outdoor table, I enjoyed a slice of cake while watching the quiet comings and goings of the locals, immersing myself in the tranquility that only small villages can offer.
A quick jump in to the nature
For nature lovers, Sisteron also provides wonderful hiking opportunities. I had don’t had chance to follow a trail along the Gorges de la Méouge, but i onow that is a protected natural area just a few kilometers from the town. The sound of water flowing between the rocks, the scent of wild herbs, and the sensation of the sun on my skin made this experience truly special. Along the way, I even met a local family who pointed me to a hidden natural pool, perfect for a refreshing swim.
Something to eat?
Sisteron is a little city but is full of good restaurant, my best one is L’Oppidum, is very particular and gourmet.
I advice you to try also Le Braséro that is probably the best of the city but you have to reserve because is every noght full.
Conclusion
