Good Day Travelers!
The time has come where I share my first post from Bahrain, a pretty "unknown" country for travelers but surly one of the most beautiful countries in the entire Golf-Region. My first post will be about the Al Fateh Mosque from the center of the capital Manamah. As beautiful as the country is - It was definitely the hottest place I've ever been to. By the time I visited the Mosque it had an outside temperature of 48°C (118° F).
Some of my followers may already seen some of my past Mosque posts and I once again tried my best to capture the beauty of this building in the best possible way. My personal highlight this time was even more the architecture from the outside than the inside (which was also impressive).
Location, Tickets, Guides
The Al Fateh Mosque is located right at the center of the capital and your hotel/airbnb will most likely be around this area. If not, there are Uber or other taxi service available all over the city.
There are fortunately no Ticket prices as in most of the Mosques. You can visit this impressive place entirely free without any expenses. Just don't forget to wear clothes which cover your legs and arms and if your are a women, make sure to cover your hair as well.
You will need no guide for this Mosque! The stuff who works there will guide you around and tells you about the history of the building and some interesting things about islam. I will write more about this tour in another section of the blog.
Al Fateh Mosque
The construction for this beautiful Mosque started in 1984 and it was completed in 1988. With a size of over 100m in length and almost 80m in the width, it fits a total of 7000 worshippers which is a pretty impressive number!
The entire complex is also know as the islamic center of Bahrain as there not only is a Mosque but also many class rooms to study islam and a huge islamic library right next to the building. When I walked around there for the first time I saw quite a lot of students reading old Arabic books calmly around this area.
To show you what I mean with "impressive" architecture I'll share some images from the outside of the Mosque below:
The Mosque itself is so huge that it's quite hard to capture everything on an entire frame. For that reason I walked around the Mosque and tried to highlight interesting design features and different angles of the building.
And of course, with an 48°C outside temperature I was the only one walking around the outside of the Mosque, ha. Later on there were a few people who came to pray but basically just walked from the parking space into the Mosque (Which was also the reason why I had to wait for about 35 mins to visit the Mosque from the inside - Praying Time!)
While I had the time I took some more images from the inner walkway of the Mosque. I really loved all the pattern on the windows and the perfect symmetrical lines all over the place.
As I slowly started to meld after walking around the Mosque for about 1 hour I went to the inside and they actually told me that I can just wait in one of the AC cooled class rooms before the prayers are over and so I did. At the "counter" 2 very friendly women greeted me and told me that they will show us (me and a few other visitors from India and Japan) around in a bit.
Some off you might know from my previous posts - Usually I'm always trying to avoid guides at any means but this tour turned out to be amazing. I think there is a big difference between a tour where a guide works for money or like in this case, a guide who would never accept money but loves to talk about the history and design of the place.
Al Fateh Prayer Room
As soon as the praying time was over, Ms.Sabri, our guide for the day welcomed us and picked us up from one of the class rooms. She introduced herself and told us some interesting things about the creation of this Mosque and also about her life and work at the islamic center. Her positivity about life swopped pretty quickly over to us and we were all super excited seeing more of this place.
You already saw the size outside of the Mosque but being inside... Wow.. I was blown away on how massive it actually was. It's even difficult to show it on the images but I'm pretty sure you can guess how big it is if there is space for 7000 worshippers!
Ms.Sabri told us to walk around freely to take images and get a feeling for the place. Walking around looking at the beautiful colors of the windows with a special light fall really gave this place some unique positive energy. Not to mention the masssssssive chandelier above the center and the smaller ones around the corners. What a stunning place!
As soon as everyone was done taking images and looking around, Ms.Sabri asked us to take a seat and she talked with us about our believes and told us many things about the connections there are between all the religions. She said some super interesting things which I never heard of and listening to hear was really enjoyable. We talked about for another 15 mins before we went to the open area of the Mosque.
Al Fateh Open Area
The open area was just as impressive as the outside and the praying room. Having a area with a beautiful marble floor which has different patterns and seeing all the smooth stone they used for the pillars was definitely something I haven't seen in this "style" before.
Also the lamps around this place give you a small hint on how beautiful it may look at night. Sadly I didn't have the chance to visit the Mosque after sunset but I was already pretty happy about my visit at daytime there :))
In total I spend around 1 hour outside and 1 hour inside of the Mosque. After walking around the open area we had another little Chat with Ms.Sabri before she said good bye and thanked us for joining her tour. I was surprised about myself on how much I enjoyed this tour, ha! But to be fair, Ms.Sabri really made it as comfortable for everyone as possible!
Do I recommend a visit?
Well, if you really come around Bahrain, it's the clearest yes I can give! It's probably one of the main spots you can visit around the country and it's really something so unique that you just cant miss out on it. It's totally worth taking the tour and I'm sure there will be interesting things to learn for everyone. No matter if you are a religious person, a fan of architecture or if you just search for any activity - This is a great place to go!
Thanks for joining this little virtual tour with me - I hope you enjoyed it! :))
Best,
Chris
