Apparently even getting there early is no guarantee that spaces will be available.

I don't think that people were camping there. I just think it was too small of a parking lot to accommodate the amount of people who use the cable car. We found free parking with a reasonable walking distance though. So it worked out

Yeah that part was a bit of a struggle indeed. If only we turned left instead of right, it would have been so much easier
