In contact with nature in the Ciénaga de Zapata, Cuba

in Worldmappinlast year

Good beautiful PINMAPPLE community.

This time I’m in the Ciénaga de Zapata... wow.... What an incredible place, without a doubt the Cuban crocodile has become one of my favorite animals, without further ado we are going to explore a part of this beautiful cienaga located in the province of Matanzas, Cuba

Let’s start!!

This cienaga is one of the most particular places in the country, this place is inhabited by one of the two species of crocodiles that exist in Cuba and is also an endemy of our country, its scientific name is Crocodylus rhombifer, it lives in swampy places of fresh water, and possibly clean water.

In these areas, landscapes of low, marshy and semi-swampy plains predominate, on turbot deposits and limestone rocks, with hydromorphic soils and vegetation of natural savannas of high aesthetic and landscape value, such as the Laguna del Tesoro and the basin of the Hatiguanico River, the main river artery of the area, as well as Playa Larga and Playa Girón.

This time I was able to visit the crocodile tree that is in this area.

In its entrance, in addition to seeing many posters showing crocodiles and some data of interest, I could also see that they had jutias, jicoteas and fish, which inhabit these areas.

You fell in love with the views, with a wide range of green colors, predominating lush nature and water creates very great water mirrors, all very beautiful wherever you look.

I was curious in the old days how the crocodiles walked through the water in their habitat, Oh my God, I couldn’t imagine walking through these dense and dense forests that they could be silent somewhere...

For food and cocktail lovers, there is no problem with that here, they have very good food offers, too interesting, things that can’t be seen anywhere and the cocktail shop is very good also with very striking natural fruit ornaments.

Wherever I walked, it was very photographable, the truth is that they have everything very well taken care of and arranged, for nature lovers like me it is a dream to know these places, and to be able to enjoy a walk surrounded by these beautiful things that nature gives us.

Until we got to the most exciting part of the small crossing, the part where the hatcheries were located, I found them from the size of a little larger than the palm of a hand to the dangerous way as I say, the big ones were already an impression that without words, seeing these animals in front of one is more than exciting.

As soon as they knew that my group and I arrived they put themselves in an attack position I would say, most of them started walking towards where we were there was a wall but not very high and the truth is that it makes you want to run away when you see an animal like walking to where you are.

We found one that was detached from the vulto, that because we knew that there were crocodiles there, if they were suletos through the forest easy you put your feet up to one and you don’t even notice, they are very very silent, and they move that you almost don’t even notice, in addition to the camouflage they have, truly amazing.

Walking through the hatchery we found an area that allowed you to carry them and they still impressed me much more, they have a skin that is as if they were rubber, a very strong rubber, they made you want to stretch it, hehe... in addition to being a rubber they are cold, even more at the bottom, it seems that they had taken it out of a fridge honestly, with very beautiful eyes.

Of course he had his mouth tied up even if he is so small he is a crocodile, and he has a very powerful bite, this one that he carried was more than 60-70 cm, I really wanted to take one of these pets to my house, but I can’t imagine when they grow up.

And since we were there, my wife and I took advantage of us to make some souvenirs, you are as soon as I can I take them out and I put a frame on it yes or yes...

One of my friends with the carapacho class that he has and he was afraid to grab a little lizard of these, terrible, how scary...

As a souvenir we bought for the girls some necklaces with a shark tooth, these animals release them alone moving them for new ones, in the place there were also shops that this is very beautiful but it gave me a little thing of stuffed crocodiles of various sizes and also belts, hats and some other things made with these animals, which I suppose they make of those who die.

We wanted to take the boat trip to the Laguna del Tesoro but due to fatality we have to book the trip in advance and we were passing by so we got fatal and left it for a next time not too far away.

I hope you enjoyed this travel experience as much as I did. Maybe later you will visit these places on your own. There is always something new to discover in each place, something different to explore. I hope you live your own adventure and enjoy it as I have done.

It's really a very spectacular place, I've never held a crocodile, and it looks like it would be fun to see cute turtles swimming in the pool

Yes, by far, a super experience, greetings
